How big a derby is Coventry for us Villa fans?

Just wondering how us Villa fans would rank Coventry in terms of our derby rivals.

From what I gather, Coventry hate us with a passion (i.e. they still sing SOTV) and they see us as their no.1 rivals (although since we haven't played them for so long they have developed a rivalry with Leicester.)

I think most Villa fans would agree that Blues is our main derby followed by the Albion.

But then Wolves isn't really a massive West Midlands derby is it (doesn't seem to mean to much to either club) so would you say that Cov is a bigger derby than Wolves?

Would you ever find Wolves fans singing like the Coventry fans in these two videos:

I'd love to face them in the FA Cup or Carling Cup next season.

Everyone loves a derby don't they?

It was a great match in the late 90s in the PL when there were no derby's against Small Heath, Baggies or Wolves. Being from close by to Cov it's very significant to me as alot of my family are Cov fans, so that helps too. It's a cracking derby for me, but would totally understand alot of Villa fans not really being bothered with them anymore

Theres no real animosity between Wolves and Villa .

At least ive never known of any - not on a serious level.

Coventry - who gives a ****?- so long since we played them

We relegated them back in 2000 .

There was a very vague derby feel to some games but was mostly from their side

Can't say ive even thought about Coventry in the last 10 years .

Really dont even think of them. I was very young when they got relegated but remember the older villa fans i knew at the time didnt see it as a real derby. It was just the closest we had to a real derby at the time..

Blues

Albion

Wolves

Redditch

Solihull Moors

Kidderminster Harriers

Coventry

is how I would rate our local derbies ;)

earlier this season i was at new street going to our cup game with blackburn and loads of coventry fans piled off a train and gave me a shit load of abuse for having my villa shirt on. absolutely hilarious. it took me a while to realise who they were

with regards to other derbies, i would only class small heath as a proper local derby even though i think i'm right in saying we're geographically closer to the albion albeit by less than a mile. i actually like albion and kind of assumed that they disliked small heath more than they do us but seemingly that isn't the case.

Its like Scotland, Wales + Ireland. We dont give a **** about them and infact kinda like them but they all hate us with a passion.

Edit: I like going on our opposition fans' boards the week we play them and seeing whats going on with their team etc lately some baggies fan is doing the same it would appear...but for the team playing us, going round asking them to batter us and saying how much he hates us, not sure if he understands that the people on the board wont be actually playing in the match...

Even though Villa Vs West Brom was the original Birmingham derby there's only one team that we have our real derbies with and it's Small Heath! I don't really have any real hatred towards any of the other teams in the West Midlands. Whenever we play the likes of West Brom and Wolves I just treat it as a normal game. The day we relegated Coventry was a great day at Villa Park though!

No very, i think it pisses them off even more how little we think of them, but i never look for there results or even know who there manager is. I went to the Oasis concert at the ricoh a couple of years ago, ended up playing poker in the casino next to a "Coventry legend". I have no idea who he was. Almost got my head punched in that.

i used to work in coventry and had no idea of their hatred for us. mind you i will always remember the shittest game i had the misfortune of seeing, it was villa v coventry at coventry in their shit ground. it was expensive and we scored from a corner after about 2 minutes ( i think it was dwight yorke but it could have been fash the gash). that was the most exciting the game got, a game of hoof ball by both sides ensued throughout the game.

the only other thing of interest in that game was at half time a villa fan ran on the pitch where nigel spink was warming up and after immitating the coventry cheerleaders ( who were very tidy) the chap ran over and took a penalty against spinky. then spinky put the ball down to take one against the chap but took a HUUUUge run up and the chap ran away.

very funny.

When I was growing up and first going away a trip to Highfield Road was always a bit of a risky one and pretty much always extremely hostile. In those days it was the closest thing we had to a local derby thanks to Blues being about two divisions behind and in those days it was pretty big. It used to kick off almost every time we played them and I seem to recall it kicking off a couple of times at VP.

I may be remembering it wrong but wasn't it a load of Coventry fans who were in the Holte End one game and then ran the length of the pitch to jump in the away end in the early 90's?

I had some horrible trips to that place but some fantastic ones as well such as when Yorke scored a header after 13 seconds.

I really celebrated when we put them down and I'm delighted they haven't come back but I've hardly thought about them since the day they went down.
