Jon
BBC Link SPOTY CONTENDERS - Mark Cavendish Tom Daley Jessica Ennis David Haye AP McCoy Graeme McDowell Graeme Swann Phil Taylor Lee Westwood Amy Williams So, who's going to win it, and who do you want to win it. I think it'll be Westwood or Jess myself, and either would be deserving ...
Dante_Lockhart
David Haye has more personality than all of them. Plus he basically finished off (Fr)Audley.
AVFCDAN
How can it be anyone but Tony Mccoy? A legend in his sport and finally won the national this year. I would take ennis as an outsider though.
wiggyrichard
Graeme McDowell, he won us the Ryder Cup, came second in the race to Dubai, won the Andalucía Valderrama Masters and won the US Open all in 1 year. Not bad really.
Jon
David Haye has more personality than all of them. Plus he basically finished off (Fr)Audley. Well, I included quite sarcastic quotation marks around the word 'Personality', as really it's not about the personality of the sportsperson, more their achievements .... I would take ennis as an outsider though. Agreed. Mccoy should win, what he has done over the years is amazing and how many broken bones ? As for Ennis, I would take her anyway she wanted tbh. Proper fit bird in every sense :-)

A bit like cycling or darts, it's hard(er) for sportspeople in those sports to win it IMO.
Risso
Horce racing isn't a sport at all, and neither is darts. It should be Mark Cavendish.
bickster Posted November 30, 2010 Moderator Share Posted November 30, 2010 Horse Racing is too corrupt for achievements to be considered genuine, some dwarf who keeps falling off horses for a living doesn't make him a sportsman. Don't start me on Darts as a sport Haye has fought no-one For me it'd have to be Swanny or McDowell but It'll probably be Westwood seeing as he's the world's No 1 ranked golfer (no mean achievement) Oh I hate golf as well

Westwood is still yet to win a major.

Ballybunion_Ice
Phil Taylor for me. Cant give it to any of the Athletes that won gold in the Commonwealth games, as the best in the world were not there. David Haye - no chance. Not until he fights the Kilts. leemond2008
to be honest I thought 'sports personality of the year' was all a big joke didn't ryan giggs win it the other year despite only playing 8 or 9 games for utd they tried to say it was because of all of the accomplishments he acheived over the years but surely that should be a lifetime acheivment award or something like that and not an award that is normally received on acheivments based on the current year sorry if that makes no sense or if I am thinking of completely the wrong thing but it has took me about 30 minutes to type that cuz i'm at work
parisvilla
i reckon McDowell will win it. was surprised to see paul scholes or gary neville not on the shortlist after last year's debacle

wiggyrichard
Agree with McDowell. Been a poor year really. He's done more this year than most golfers do in their entire career! I know Westwood is No.1, but McDowell has been more consistant.
