Just to add to the sea of cynicism, is has got to a point where we can't want our players to play too well otherwise they'll be snared from us the following summer.
Nope. The over riding need to be self sufficient and sustainable means we have to hope they play well to increase their value to turn a profit that we can then try and snare more youngsters to develop.

Hopefully our new manager might be able to hold onto our best players for a few seasons longer.

The harsh reality of it all is that we are a feeder club to the top clubs. As much as people paint over it and bitch and moan, this is fact.

Technically everyone is, Wig, by this definition.

People on here have decided to incorrectly use the term 'feeder club' and distort it's meaning, which is annoying.

There are 2 clubs at the top of the pyramid, Barcelona and Real Madrid, everybody else in world football is a feeder club for them. If they want, they get.

That's how it is these days. But the more profit we can get on our players the better our economy will be and in the long run we might find it easier to keep our good players. A bit like tottenham. But we'll probably have to wait a few years and just hope to be able to stay just a bit north of the mid table line. If it can turn out good for us I'm prepared to wait.

Oh i agree mate, Barcelona being top of the food chain. As Rich has said in his posts, its not necessarily a bad thing as some on here make out, its just football and how it works.

A false strategy there that ignores the presence of other football clubs and the fact that they will not be standing still waiting for us to catch up.

Only false if we don't re invest the money, which is kind of necessary to keep it going, sts. Spuds did it, so why can't we?

Spurs do not run at a profit they have an owner who pumps plenty of money into them to cover transfers and wages and they run at a loss every season so this isnt really anything for us to aim at.

I'm sorry to say it but our only hope is a rich Arab and thats the way football is nowadays wether we like it or not :(

McCarthy has had a good run of games in a pretty poor team. Delph has been unlucky with injuries and has had alot more competion to get past to get a game.

2 totally different situations. I could see why people dont really rate Delph mind. Never had a propper chance to show it for a sustained amount of time.

Spurs had a profit of £3m in 2007 , a profit of £33.4m in 2008 and they made a £4.2m profit in the last 6 months of 2010. I think they had a loss in 2009 but generally they do make profits

Back on topic, Delph is nothing more than average and Man Utd did not bid for him

Delph will show why MON payed a lot of money for him this season, also why Fergie matched our bid at the last minute.

Really? Is that true? Never heard that one.

'We can confirm a fee has been agreed with Aston Villa for Fabian Delph and wish to place on record our appreciation for the honourable manner in which they have conducted their interest in the player.

'Leeds United have resisted approaches from other Premier League clubs since agreeing terms with Villa. Having given Villa our commitment to transfer the player (subject to a medical), we had no intention of going back on that.'

From The Mail

Rumour has it it was Fergie. You only have to search the internet and there is loads of articles about Man Utd's interest in him.
