I found it a bit concerning when he said that the Milner/Ireland deal was the only one being negotiated and that he would have to sit down and discuss further deals with Randy and co.

Why so surprised. MON had at least another week before he would have seriously started considering any transfer activity.

Are you really that surprised given all the talk that has come out of Villa this summer?

Dont be concerned.

Its not as if he will be doing the chasing or haggling. He will have an idea what we need, and he will give that name to Randy and Paul Faulkner, whilst he concentrates on team matters.

As for the only deal being negotiated, well it was at the time. Does not mean that they have not moved on to their next target now the deal has been done.

I foresee one more arrival.

Don't want to be a party pooper but i really don't see Martin Jol wanting t ocome to villa, I mean why would he ??

Mate, he tried everything he could to get away and join Fulham. I think therefore he would run 500 miles to join Villa if we showed an interest.

Everything he could? Did he resign then?

No, he didn't resign. I'm surprised you didn't know that. :| However, it is clear to see that the relationship he has at Ajax is about as solid as a piece of ice in Hawaii. It would not take much to persuade him to come to Villa IMO - and even if he doesn't for whatever reason, I doubt he will finish the season at Ajax.

Does anyone else feel that Slaven B could do the job for villa ? Every time i've seen him on the tele he looks as high as a kite. In Croatia hes a god, rock star , model , probably pornstar. He'll have no where to hide here ..

I know some people mentioned McClaren but the guy is such a muppet, he's trying to sound German it's hilarious in his interview for Wolfsberg!

Please tell me it's a little bit like this?

Very similar but a German versian, very funny once again, could you imagine if he joined Villa would he try to use a brummy accent, have lessons from Gabby.

you may not like this but think about it for 5 mins..steve macclaren, hes just won the league in holland, knows the prem league, has something to prove to the english game, won a trophy with boro, yes he failed with england however every one fails with england so theirs no shame in that. their no way moyes would leave everton as hes the next united manager.

No thanks.

I did give it a quick think, and then recalled how he wasted millions of quid on acheiving a relegation place. Then i remmember his smug interviews and Boro fans turned on him.

Then theres his tenure with England, and how most of squad thought he was a numpty.

Holland is different to England, its why a lot of Dutch players would prefer to play in the Prem, its a better test.

If ts not Macca, then we have to have the best available, and the only stand out name is Jol.

At Boro his team was comfortably in mid-table when he left adn Southgate got them relegated.

Also he beat Jol to Eredivisie last year and everybody wants Jol and not McLaren. very strange

Personally I don't think Jol was ever interested in leaving Ajax, he just used the Fulham talk to get more money out of the Ajax board.

Southgate turned them into a relegation side.

McClaren has won the Dutch league with a team usually content to finish 3rd or 4th. He got to the final of the UEFA Cup with Boro an achievement similar to Fulhams last season. He also reached a FA Cup semi final and won the League Cup. This means he's their most successful manager ever.

Of course England will always stick out in peoples minds. The Holland is different to England bit makes no sense though. :?:

McClaren has an excelent record at club level. He is remembered for the Euro qualifying campaign with England though.

I predict he will return from Germany with more experience and credability and will go on to manage a big club in England.
