Con Posted December 27, 2012 Share Posted December 27, 2012 Bannan has been on the pitch for 17 out of 18 points we have achieved so far this season (including the sub appearance prior to the equaliser for the draw against West Brom). This makes him our most important midfielder, even though Ireland is supposed to be our senior midfielder. sure, he was outclassed by Juan Mata at the weakend but against most other teams we need the composure and control he gives to the midfield. Yet you take out all your anger on Bannan, who is our top performing midfielder by default. Bannan's passing was good today. He didn't have a great game, none of the players did, but he didn't play badly either. He was consistent and linked well with Benteke and Weimann with some great forward balls. Stephen Ireland was the manager's go-to guy today. Lambert benched Westwood so that Ireland could drive us to the win. Ireland didn't want to be out there and got subbed early. I have nothing against the lad but how low have we fallen when he is now considered to be one of our main midfield players. You can't fault his effort but simple truths are that he isn't good enough for this division.
