Goonies is a massive film for me but it's probably a film you would have needed to grow up with.

Same here. I grew up in the 80's and I think its a stone cold classic film of its time.

Never seen The Goonies (wrong generation), never seen The Dead. Don't care about the former, very regretful about the latter.

Agree on the former. Saw GD 137 times, first show in 1983, last in 1995. Had tickets for October 1995 shows but, well, you know what happened 😢

Actually, once (maybe twice) would be enough. I don't really 'get' this seeing bands multiple times. 137 is crazy (I'm well aware that it's what Deadheads do, and that it's probably small numbers compared to the hardcore fans).

Of 'name' bands, my record is four - The Who (over a period of about 40 years). I have friends in a couple of local bands that I've seen maybe 20 or so times, but I regard that more as socialising than gig-going.

Just binge watched season 1 of The Responder.

Its basically Line of Duty with the cast of Brookside and Tim from the office.

Quality, if a little far fetched.

About to start season 2.

I get that, but with the GD it’s quite simple: they never played the same setlist from night to night. One could go to a tour consisting of, say, 20 shows, and only see even significant songs 2-3 times. And they had no problem with shelving popular/important songs for years at a time. So, without going too deep into it, they didn’t play anything resembling the same show from night to night (after 1969- up to that point the repertoire was small). Lastly, they were an extremely improvisational band, the solos and instrumentals were never, ever duplicated. So what one saw on any given night was truly a once in a lifetime show. This approach sometimes led to 💩 but it mostly led to magic. That never-ending searching for “the sound” is what kept them and us at it

All that said, I don’t understand why people “go on tour” with acts who play the exact same set every night, including (especially) the same banter

Other bands I have seen numerous times: Allman Brothers, Neil Young, Dylan, Wilco, R.E.M., The Who, Springsteen, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Los Lobos, Lou Reed, Richard Thompson, Drive By Truckers, Beck, Lucinda Williams, Black Crowes

I’ve never been so insulted 😉

One episode of that was enough for me.

The accents, the curly perms, the trackies…just no.

I get that. But we're off topic here, we should take this to the music thread.

I say this as someone who didn't actually catch the original run, but X-Men '97 is quietly going about being one of the most enjoyable shows of the year.

Any opinions on Slow Horses?

My wife and I have really enjoyed it. Oldman is truly great in this, love the relationship he has with Kristen Scott Thomas. Also, I will watch anything with Aimee-Ffion Edwards in the cast ❤️

It's very clichéd and a bit of suspension of disbelief is required but I've always preferred the scruffier side to the spy genre (probably why I loathe James Bond) and Oldman is magnificent in the main role and pretty much how I imagined him in the books.

Indeed! For many actors Skins, Detectorists, Luther, & Peaky Blunders alone would make for an incredible life’s work

And Jackson Lamb is the poster boy for scruffy 🤣

anyone here watch this? None of my friends did and I am dying to hear what others thought. My wife stuck with it to the end but I think she didn’t care for it. It’s pretty much one of a kind, definitely a “not for everybody” kind of thing

No, I'm not. Because I'm watching the new Doctor Who, and it's just as terrible as I expected from Russell T Davies. God it's just appalling. Shame, because Ncuti Gates is very good (as was Jodie Whittaker before him). Ruby Sunday is still annoying. Glad they are replacing her to be honest.
