I thought it was a legal requirement for cars to carry a spare wheel?
Apparently not Mike. As said they get around it with that gel stuff, but I would not put that anywhere near my tyres

According to the AA

There is no legal obligation to carry a spare tyre and it does not have to comply with the legal requirements while it is stowed away. However, when fitted to the vehicle (for example, following a puncture) it must then comply with the law. A spare tyre is not a testable item in the MOT test, though the examiner may draw your attention to an unserviceable item as a matter of courtesy.

I always thought that too until I got my current car (RX-8). TBH I never actually checked the legal requirement but assumed that if a car such as mine had nowhere for a spare, I'd be fine without one. Probably a good thing as at £300 a pop, I'd rather not have one just sitting around in the boot doing nothing. Besides, I've always got my (useless) puncture repair kit!

Over here for our version of the MOT they've recently decided that your tyres must be rated to the top speed of your car. So if your car is capable of 150mph, as a lot of decent cars are these days, then so must your tyres. Despite the maximum legal speed limit being 75mph. And track days don't count cuz you're not insured on them anyway. Money extracting bast*rds. Oh and they've also decided that cars 10 years and older only get a cert for 12 months instead of the usual 24. Which I would be really against, if I wasn't ehh, how shall I put this, making it so that it didn't affect me anyway.

Had a new conti put on to replace the bust one - 135 quid fitted from National which wasn't bad considering I was stuck (and the recovery chappy phoned them and took me to the place). Tyres aint cheap

I can see the logic though Bri. I got done for speeding a bit back when I had my Celica. The coppers were decent blokes and we had a good chat about it, as they said my car (it was the T Sport) was set-up brake and tyre wise for speed, the problem is when they had to peel out of a wrecked Saxo some little chav who had been topping a ton.

Personally tyres are not one thing I would go cheap on

Nor me, which by extension usually means my tyres are properly rated (Firestone Firehawks are yer only man IMO). But for example a tyre that is rated at 120mph on a car that does 150mph should be fine in a country that allows 75mph even allowing for hooligans topping a ton. Let's face it, a 120mph tyre is not going to delaminate at 121mph or even 130mph. I'm sorry, it's just cynical money grabbing which can, as you have done there, easily be justified in the name of safety when in reality there's a huge grey area in the middle which is now technically illegal albeit perfectly safe.

The NCT where your car is guaranteed to come out more **** after the test than befor it went in

Sounds familiar. I spent £250 on my last car to have the AC serviced. When it came back the AC didn't work at all (well, it blew out warm air no matter what setting it was on). When I pointed it out to the Audi dealer they told me it must have been broken before the service (which is clearly was not). I did ask why they'd do a service if the AC was broken and if it was broken why did nobody notice it during the service but they stuck to their guns. I did eventually get my money back but it took a lot of writing of stroppy letters and threats of legal action before they finally backed-down.

Since when did it change to 12 months Brian?

In the last few months along with loads of other stuff including the acceptable tread depth amongst other things. They've basically made it a lot harder and a lot more expensive in general to keep passing. Typical really.

Here's an article. Actually, reading that, the >10yr rule has been decided and will be implemented from June 2011 so you're OK for another year.

Was wondering this the other day when doing some *ahem* research, whilst perusing the 'specialist adult art entertainment of the amateur variety' on the internet, has anyone ever come across - sorry, spotted someone they knew / recognised?

I once saw a still image of someone I swore I knew but when I went back couldn't find it :-(

My mate from school spotted a girl that was on his course at uni, while he was there.

I didn't believe him but I've had it verified by his course mates and seen pictures of her on a night out.

No she isn't fit, and yes she is a very dirty girl judging by the material!

A mate of mine was going out with a gir at Uni who told him she had done naked photo shoots for some magazines (pre internet days here), not sex just naked pictures. So he was okay with it that is until he made the mistake of telling his house mate.

He proceeded to go to quite unbelievable lengths to get hold of copies of the magazine from some 2 years earlier, he even contacted the publisher to try and get back issues!!!! (insert your own joke)

Eventually he got hold of them, so one day my mate walks into his house and in the living room are 6 mates each with a copy of her mag in their hands laughing as they checked her out from every angle.

They split up very soon after that.

:-) oh yes a couple.

One was pointed out to us, basically it was a woman who worked for a company in the East Midlands (they will remain nameless) in procurement. She was on one of these web sites that show male strippers having their pink Oboe's being played by members of the audience. As quite a few of us knew her from dealings on certain contracts it made the next meeting quite a funny one
