The_Rev
French international footballer Rio Antonio Mavuba wasnt born in France. He was born on a boat in international waters while his parents were fleeing Angola. His dad was an international footballer too, he played for Zaire in the 1974 world cup and his mum was from Angola but as he has no country of birth on his passport (it says "born at sea" apparently) he was eligible to play for anybody, but he considers himself French as he grew up in France. PussEKatt
Tim Cahill actually played a match for Samoa ( or some other small island in the pacific ) but as it was only a schoolboy international he was alowed to play for Australia as his mother/father was Australian. The_Rev
That happens quite a lot. Ryan Giggs played for England schoolboys, mostly because he has lived to in Manchester since he was a kid.

The_Rev
Yep. I was just highlighting the fact that playing for a different country at schoolboy level is a far more common thing than being born at sea and going on to become an international footballer. PussEKatt
Superglue was invented by the military for treating battlefield wounds. I did`nt know that.GPS was invented to target missles in Iraq. Just shows you.If it was`nt for wars we would be miles behind in technology.

Prohibition-era gang crime in the USA basically created what is now modern forensic investigation.

PussEKatt
The Gloster Meteor actually flew during the war.It entered service in 1944. It was only used against the doodlebugs as the British did not want to risk it over enemy teritory. So, that means that aviation went from bi-planes to jets in only 7 years. Very impressive. You are quite right, but the Meteor's war service was somewhat limited. Likewise, there were Hurricanes around in 1938, and the Gladiators saw action in 1940-41 (Norway and Malta) - and there were prototype jets around in Britain and Germany in the late 30s - but I deliberately chose a year either side to make the point that they were the established main fighters at that stage. Then again... The B-52 Stratofortress: First flight 15 April 1952, still in service!
