Qualifying for CL for 2-3 years running makes the difference as Spurs have done at points in the last decade.

All I'd say is be prepared for more selections like last night at various points next season which will be an interesting reaction on here.

I don’t know. It’s not the same city side and the fans and the players were getting nervous I sense. This was a must win game for them. They have difficult fixtures left and they need to win every single one to stand a chance.

City need to win every single game to stand a chance of winning the league? They're one point behind Arsenal and level with Liverpool (albeit Liverpool have one game in hand).

It’s what Pep said himself. Mainly because Liverpool have that game in hand and will win tonight.

I think a loss for Utd tonight at Chelsea pretty much sees their slim hopes of catching us or Tottenham disappear. Fortunately Chelsea still have plenty to play for/incentive tonight as they are only 5 points off 7th with 3 games in hand and if they beat Utd they'd only be 5 points off them/6th with a game in hand.

Yeah and Arsenal and Liverpool will win most of the games they have left.

Think Liverpool will.

Can see Arsenal having a few draws between their CL games. We have a far better chance of getting something down there than last night imo even if it comes three days after the Lille first leg.

Assuming we don't sacrifice it like we did last night

One thing changed for me, given we both have to play Chelsea, Spurs game in hand is Man C

Nor Man C or Chelsea games has been given a date yet so they actually will have 2 games in hand

Was looking at this and I reckon Man City will be changed to in between Sheffield United and Burnley and Chelsea will be between their games against Arsenal and Liverpool

I'd be disappointed. We're at home first leg so hardly any travel apart from 90 minutes down to a hotel on the outskirts of the M25. McGinn's not played for weeks so illogical to rest him for a start. Hopefully Ollie, Ramsey and Cash will be in contention for Arsenal if they don't make this weekend's game.

Arsenal also between the Munich legs so may not be their strongest side either.

We're usually far more competitive at the Emirates even if we lose than we are at Man. City aswell as they do give you a chance if you work the ball quick enough on the counter.

Ben Crellin  has Man city game as "confirmed or very likely" between Burnley and Sheffield while he's had the Chelsea game "likely" to be between Liverpool v Burnley but also possible the week before

Qualifying for the CL has no boosts for players we could sign other than a bit of extra cash for that one year, which doesn’t mean much because of PSR wage restrictions and amortisation of any player we do buy because we won’t be counting on getting the income in the years after.

what it does is help keep our players and increase our commercialisation through increased exposure. That is the lasting effect.

getting CL 2 or 3 years out of say the next 5 years will just super charge that, cement us in revenue behind the big six, open the gap behind us.

it would also allow us to spend like we will get into it most years.

Yes, but unfortunately Chelsea are also terrible. Let's hope they have one of their good days.

UCL qualifying might not be the floodgate that pushes us back into the spotlight.

But it also could be.

Saying that it definitely won't overlooks the massive importance it has in terms of boosting our revenues and our profile to be able to compete on an annual basis. It may well end up like Newcastle or Leicester. But we could also propel ourselves into constant European campaigns and a closer reach for a title race, more funds for a bigger squad to compete in cups. It's kind of boggling to me that people are understating it.  We were last in the Europa league 13 some years ago. We were last in the European Cup 40 years ago!

There's a whole generation of Villa fans who have never seen us in the European Cup/UCL - including me.
