pacbuddies
The government have released fresh guidance to the Premier League regarding their decision to either postpone or allow fixtures to be fulfilled, which will be made this morning. A statement reads: "There is no obligation to cancel or postpone events and sporting fixtures, or close entertainment venues during the National Mourning period. This is at the discretion of individual organisations.

VillaChris
No royalist but the right decision for me. Would be very disappointed if Southampton a week today just gets called off aswell, that should still go ahead.

Imagine if nothing was cancelled and there wasn't wall to wall media coverage of the Queen's passing. That gives people the impression the monarchy doesn't matter. However getting everything cancelled and having millions waving miniature union jacks is just the propaganda you need to make people think the monarchy are relevant and are a good thing for the country. Whether that's actually the case, meh, their are decent arguments for and against. TDLR; Its just propaganda, plain and simple. That's the only reason sports are cancelled. People have already given several other reasons why sports events, and events in general, might be cancelled, in particular policing and security. VillaAlex
In a time where people are already have limited money, they may now have train fares, hotel bookings they cannot have refunded at short notice. It's a shambles and shows again how the powers in charge are so out of touch with fans.

pacbuddies
Absolutely disgraceful decision. No thought for fans up and down the country that have purchased train tickets, coach tickets, accomodation & booked time off work.

grobs
No games for a month with the international break. Basically only thing that gets me through the week is the football. So grim

Zatman
Embarrassing decision. Did they postpone football for 2 weeks when the Leicester City chairman died? Somebody actually involved in the league

Might be Monday 19th September so would seem bizarre to postpone Friday evening games a couple of hundred miles away. Think only games in danger of being postponed next weekend are obviously the London ones with security/police needed elsewhere. It's fine having a period to remember wonderful figurehead of country but sporting fixtures shouldn't really be cancelled for weeks on end, just use this weekend to properly reflect and then get on with it again.
