U21 Development League 2022/2023

Stats updated. 2 new names in the matchday squad. No DOBs for them yet.  Thierry Katsukunya, a defender we bought for 6 figures off Coventry City last November as a 16 year old came off the bench for a 2 minute cameo at the end. There's slight confusion over his nationality. He's English born but a few youth sites have him down as a Welsh U18 international.  Secondly we had the definitely English (I think...) Abube Onuchukwu, a midfielder who has come through the ranks from u13.  We also had a first matchday appearance of the season for defensive midfielder Todd Alcock and a first also for forward Kyrie Pierre.  So it's fair to say this was a very young side. Indeed the starters alone were on average half a year younger than our previous youngest team this season (18.76 v 19.21 y/o). But it's quite a feat to throw two 3-0 leads away in our first 4 games of the season.

This round's results.

Friday
Leeds United(1)  6-2 Southampton(4)
Newcastle(6)     2-1 Notts Forest(10)
West Brom(5)     2-1 Derby County(11)

Sunday
Middlesbrough(3) 1-3 Norwich City(2)
Stoke City(9)    3-3 Aston Villa(7)

Papa John's result. Wimbledon beat Crawley 3-2. Caleb got an assist and played the 90 for Crawley. Wimbledon now 2 for 2. We're at Pompey in 2 weeks (Tuesday 4th).

Good to see him getting a slice of the action somewhere. He's definitely not earning as much dough as his brother right now but he might still rise up through the ranks if he can deliver in front of goal.

Have we agreed a price for him?

This Grauniad article calls Travis Patterson the best talent of the next generation at Aston Villa.

Quote

Next Generation 2022: 20 of the best talents at Premier League clubs

An athletic and determined left-sided attacking midfielder and a No 8 with lots of potential. Patterson, who can also operate as a full-back, played for Villa’s Under-21s at the age of 15, has represented England Under-17s and also trained with Villa’s first team last season, when he also featured off the bench in an EFL Trophy victory at Burton Albion. He is a dynamic, versatile player who is technically proficient and fluid in possession. Signed a scholarship in July to join Villa’s Under-18s but has become a regular at Under-21 level. Patterson, who hails from near Wolverhampton but has been with Villa since around the age of nine, also excelled academically with his GCSEs. Ben Fisher

Every time the Baggies get the ball they are hitting us on the counter and they are far more powerful than our players. The baggies front 3 are 18 , 19 and 19 though  just far bigger and stronger than our defenders

Tommi O Reilly the best of our lot by a mile. Looks a real baller tonight
