Premier League Cup and FA Youth Cup are two different competitions. Today's team was...

Zych, Rhodes, Softley, O'Reilly, Munroe; McBride, Afoka, Alcock, Reddin, Hart, Sewell.

Subs: Wright, Patterson, Pierre, Barber, Lutz.

FA Youth Cup team will presumably be stronger and  see the likes of Bogarde, Chrisene, Feeney, Swinkels, Burchall, Iroegbunam and others come into the side, hopefully Shakpoke too if he can get fit.

Think Iroegbunam is overage, but certainly a very promising team again this year. Even Carney can still play if we want him to!

Lost 5-2, U18s letting in a lot of goals this season, that's the third time they've conceded five, there doesn't seem to be many options at centreback, Feeney is already with the U23s so that just leaves Softley and Aaron O'Reilly and I think O'Reilly must be injured so for most games they've been playing with only one specialist central defender, and as has been noted previously we don't really have a specialist left-back either.

Today Burchall and Sewall were also missing, Barnes seems to be a long term injury, and not sure if Kadan Young is injured or not, he's actually a 2006, so doesn't turn sixteen until next year, so might just be that they're keeping him with the U16s for now, although he was playing for the U18s at the end of last season and in pre-season.

As for the FA Youth Cup, whilst we have some very good players U18, I think it's going to be very difficult for us to win it again as our attacking options don't look anywhere near as good as last season when we could rely on the likes of Brad Young, Barry, Aaron Ramsey, and Carney Chukwuemeka for goals.

Feeney and Swinkels will be the 2 in the FA youth Cup.

Feeney, Swinkels, Bogarde, and O'Reilly, will all give us good options in the FA Youth Cup, and we have good options in midfield as well. It's in attack where we don't look quite as strong, at least not compared to last season, but If Shakpoke can get fit, then between him, Sewell, Burchall, Reddin and Afoka them maybe we can give it a good go. A kind draw would help us as well, last season apart from Burton we played a top flight team in every round.

Patterson came off the bench yesterday.

Shakpoke has returned to training if the pictures on the official site are anything to go by, so I don't think he's too far away now.

There's a midweek game this coming week in the U17 Premier League Cup, not sure who we're playing, but it will be one of Wolves, Small Heath, or West Brom as they're the three other teams in our group.

We lost 3-1, Jobe Bellingham scored one of their goals, that he played indicates that they played their U18 team, that we lost by that margin suggests that we probably played a younger team made up of the U16s.

Tommi O'Reilly and Aaron O'Reilly aren't brothers, Tommi is from England and has been with us for around ten years and Aaron is from Northern Ireland and joined us last year.

Aaron O'Reilly is from Dublin. The OS has both of them as ROI with Aaron joining from St. Patrick's Athletic. Tommi plays for ROI u18s and the OS says he "joined alongside a number of new scholars in July 2020".

I got mixed up with Aaron O'Reilly, it's Caolan McBride that's Northern Irish, he's just been called up to their U19 for the international break.

Tommi O'Reilly up until recently was down as English on the official site and transfermarkt, so either they got it wrong or he recently switched, the official site often talk of first year scholars having "joined" despite them having already been with the club previously, playing in the younger age groups, O'Reilly was definitely playing for our U16s before July 2020, there are actually videos on youtube from around seven years ago of him playing for us, one of them titled 'move over Benteke' which gives an indication how long he's been at the club.

Yeay I stopped short of saying he joined the club in 2020 because I had in the back of my mind that the club do, as you say, refer to scholars 'joining' even though they were sometimes already part of the setup. The reason I was looking at the post at all was because I was looking to see if both were another set of brothers, which of course they are not.

West Brom beat Wolves 3-1 in the other game in our group, that win makes them favorites to qualify, as now they just have to beat Small Heath to equal the maximum amount of points that we or Wolves can get. Looking at the line-ups Albion fielded a lot of their U18 team, whereas I think Wolves, and looking at the videos that Jobe Bellingham posted, us against small heath played mostly U16 players, and other clubs are doing similar, which is why we're seeing strange results, Arsenal beat Spurs 9-0 yesterday for example.

Does anyone know if you can buy tickets for the u18s match at Bodymoor Heath v Brighton on Saturday on the official site? I’ve looked and I can’t find anything about it

I don't think you can buy tickets for U18 games unfortunately.

I'm not sure of the exact rules, but Iroegbunam only turned eighteen in June, won't be nineteen until next season, so I think he can play in the competition.

where did you hear this?
Internet says he's 19 already https://www.transfermarkt.com/tim-iroegbunam/profil/spieler/696589

He is not eligible

As per Wikipedia entry:

The Football Association Youth Challenge Cup is an English football competition run by The Football Association for under-18 sides. Only those players between the age of 15 and 18 on 31 August of the current season are eligible to take part. It is dominated by the youth sides of professional teams, mostly from the Premier League, but attracts over 400 entrants from throughout the country.
