Aston Villa Women

I watched the Everton and West Ham defeats, and the big shame of it is they actually played well and were the better team in both, we've started to become a very good passing team, Scott and Patten have made a big difference in that regard, it's just in the final third we really do look very poor, that's the main thing that needs to be addressed in the summer.

Still not sure why Freya Gregory was loaned out, she's getting game time and that will put her in good stead for us in the future, but truth be told she's probably one of our better forward options now, and arguably should be starting for us, has done very well at Leicester and was in the WSL team of the week for February.

Hopefully we can somehow pick up a couple of wins before the end of the season, maybe a few surprise draws as well, if we can finish with say six or more points than last season then all in all it will have been a good season.

Not sure what's going on with the U21s of late, they lost 5-0 away to Man Utd again today, this time in the league, that's three defeats from the last four games, to put it into context before that poor run, they were top of the table having won eight and drawn one of their nine league games this season, and were and still are the only team to beat Everton. Carla Ward did mention a covid outbreak in the academy recently, so maybe that's still affecting them... Hopefully back to winning ways soon and get some confidence back.

Won five and drawn two of their last seven games, including beating Everton 4-0 yesterday, and the two draws they won on penalties, so could say they've won seven in a row, albeit they get two points for a penalty win rather than three. Three points clear at the top of the table at the moment although Man Utd have two games in hand.

Drew 1-1 at home to Reading, not the most thrilling result, but when you consider that before today we had lost the previous ten games at home, and Reading are a decent team with ten more points than us and we had to come back from conceding fairly late on in the game to get the draw, I guess you could say it wasn't a bad result and a step in the right direction

small heath drew 0-0 last night, which pretty much secures our place in the league.

12 points ahead of them, 4 games to go and much better goal difference.

I know it was a remote chance we'd go down but still nice to have (all but) confirmation.

Probably our best result of the season, possibly our best result since promotion, Spurs most improved team in the league this season, a win today would have put them just four points behind Man City with a game in hand.

We've got three games left now Man Utd (H), Arsenal (A), and Small Heath (H), if we can at least beat small heath then that will put us on 23 points which will be an 8 points improvement on last season's total which I think is pretty good progress and something to build on next season.

Fantastic result today and guarantee’s our status in the WSL.

20 points right now with a few games to go, which isn’t that bad and still progress on last season, where we finished on 15 points I believe?

Desperately need 3 or 4 top players in the summer to bolster the squad though, with a striker the priority.

Making good progress. Spurs are probably the 'best of the rest' in the league behind the 4 dominant teams.

Few quality additions and we could be looking at 5th next year.

Not as impressive as the one against Spain but two clean-sheets for Hannah Hampton in her first two game for England. To say she had little to do would probably be an understatement, I only watched the second-half, but wasn't until seventy plus minutes that the cameras even showed her or the England goal, as all the action was further up the pitch.

Jill Scott also came on with thirty minutes remaining, kept it simple but was unlucky not to get a few assists as she created some good chances.

Our U21s finish second in the league, only missing out on the title by goal difference, was a good effort by our team, fifteen wins, three draws, and just two defeats, thirty-five plus goal difference.

With those stats we would have won the Southern section of the League finishing above Chelsea (although the leagues are seperated by north and south they still play league games against each other), Man Utd finished above us because they finished with a goal diffrence of sixty-eight plus, they basically went on a run where they absolutey thrashed everyone they played including scoring fourteen past West Ham last month.

As well as Man Utd did, if it wasn't for a covid outbreak at the start of year which possibly played a part in the defeat against Leicester, we might have pipped them to the title on points.

Congratulations to the young Villa ladies! Let’s hope many of them make the senior grade.

Can anyone confirm what the curved arrows represent on the Wolves women’s badge? Fallopian tubes? That would make the wolf section a ....

Good draw, great result, only the second team to keep a clean sheet against Man Utd this season. From what I've seen we've actually been playing a lot better since the new year, but haven't always been getting what we deserve, so good to see in recent games our improvement is starting to show in some of the results, four points from Spurs and Man Utd is an excellent return.
