Popular Post Mantis
On the subject of next season, am I the only one that's really looking forward to next season? I know we're in a bad state and this season has been beyond shameful but for me it'll just be nice to have a season where I can at least enjoy following Villa some of the time. Even with our recent struggles I've still enjoyed following Villa the last few seasons but this season has just been on a whole new level. And because I've believed we've been down since late last year I haven't been able to take much pleasure from the few victories/goals that we have had. It'll just be nice to care about Villa again. The main issue for me as an overseas supporter is not being able to see the games. Aside from that, I am looking forward to a full refresh, and alook forward to challenging for a "Title". I am assuming you are a younger supporter and I genuinely admire your feeling for the club. Being an older supporter like me.....does not give us any more credence that our opinion is better than yours and I would never try to infer that......but what I would say is this. Never settle for second best.....This is a great old institution and it has been built on those values....don't confuse what I am saying as only support success or we had it better in the past and we know what success is. I am equally not saying that obscene amounts of money is the only cure...its not.....diligence and astute recruiting will. I have a clear view of what we need to do, but I also have a clear view of wannabe's both players and managers who think they can do it. This unbelieveable car crash is reverseable .....and it will be reversed, don't know when, but it will. We need to appoint the right man and give him FULL control of the playing side....no half measures. We must NEVER settle for where we are going, but that is quite different from assuming we have a divine right to it. Aston Villa from the days of MacGregor was a fight.......and it always will be.

I'm youngish yes in that I've only been following Villa closely since the early 2000s onwards (wasn't massively into football when I was a young kid in the late 90s) but this isn't about settling for second best. Of course we can and should do a lot better than we have done recently but I was just making the point that I've had absolutely no joy whatsoever out of this season at all whereas at least in other seasons I've had bits. Popular Post VillaChris
Championship will only be enjoyable if we're near the top I think. Otherwise it will be 8 more games locked in mid table battles in a half empty stadium with players you've never heard of.

'He spat his dummy out and left them in the lurch'- English journalist blames Martin O'Neill for Aston Villa's woes Tom Rooney PUBLISHED12/04/2016 | 20:58 1COMMENTS SHARE 1 Ireland manager Martin O'Neill. Photo: Sportsfile A reporter for the Mail Online has claimed that Republic of Ireland Martin O’Neill is partly culpable for Aston Villa’s current predicament. SHARE GO TO After a disastrous campaign that has seen them record just three league wins all season, Villa sit at the foot of the Premier League table on 16 points and, barring an unforeseen miracle, the Birmingham club will playing be Championship football next season. Should they go down, Villa will find themselves outside the Premier League for the first time since its formation. For Villa to avoid the drop, they would have to take maximum points from their last five games which, on recent evidence, is a fanciful notion to say the least. The managerial carousel at Villa Park has also bordered on the farcical. Since October, there’s been four men at the helm; Tim Sherwood, Kevin MacDonald, Rémi Garde and current interim boss, Eric Black. Want-away owner Randy Lerner has been unable to sell the club, who have informed their staff that there will be considerable redundancies across the business upon relegation. Martin O’Neill was in charge of Aston Villa four years, from August 2006 to August 2010. During his first season in charge, the Derry man guided the club to an 11th place finish, five higher than the previous campaign. Under his watch, Villa finished sixth in three successive seasons and competed, albeit unsuccessfully, in the Europa League play off rounds. According to Adrian Durham, O’Neill’s achievements with club are completely undermined by the manner of his unexpected departure just five days out from the beginning of the 2010-11 season and, indeed, Villa’s profligacy in the transfer market during his tenure. “I'm waiting for the League Managers' Association to issue a statement on behalf of Martin O'Neill apologising for his part in Aston Villa’s demise,” Durham wrote in the Mail Online on Tuesday. “A manager could burn a stadium down, sell all the players and trouser the proceeds and still get the full backing of the LMA so I won't expect any acknowledgement of failure any time soon. “The organisation's statement when O'Neill left Villa days before the start of the season in 2010 said it was 'disappointed.' “Unsurprisingly it made no mention of the fact that O'Neil spent more than £30million on the likes of Curtis Davies, Steve Sidwell, Luke Young, Marlon Harewood, Zat Knight and Nigel Reo-Coker.” Reportedly, O’Neill fell out with Lerner over the size of the transfer fund at his disposal, subsequently leaving the club acrimoniously and with great haste, before being ultimately succeeded by Gerard Houllier. For Durham, the former Celtic manager’s last act at Villa Park was unforgivable. "O'Neill started the rot by signing that rotten lot, and then spat his dummy out and stomped off when James Milner was sold and Randy Lerner decided he'd seen O'Neill waste too much money already, and opted to not hand over bundles of cash to his manager. “When asked to do his job without wasting millions, O'Neill left Villa in the lurch. A series of bad appointments and decisions since then – seriously, who thought Remi Garde would be the saviour? – have left Villa all but relegated.”

thabucks
I'm in agreement about Woy, but with Bernstein and Bevington ex FA staff the link could be there. I could support his appointment more than McCarthy, Pearson though.
