Hare and Hounds, Kings Heath.

Wonderful place. Been a few times despite being the other side of Brum to me. Love the interior... the tiles on the floor, and up the staircase. Good mix of people in there as well.

Mate had a gig there and he was ace :)

Tamworth Tap named best pub in country for the second year in a row

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-stoke-staffordshire-67949548

Quote

A pub has been crowned best in the country for the second time in a row.

The Tamworth Tap scooped the National Pub of the Year 2023 award by the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) - the organisation's top honour.

Located in a 16th-Century building in Tamworth, the pub is only the second to win the prize twice consecutively.

I wouldn't mind going but would be kicked out for :

1. Not wearing a chunky knit arran sweater

2. My knowledge of steam locomotives is pitiful

3. I don't have a beard....or am not called Malcom. Or Malcolm Beard.

4. I'd end up taking the mick out of all of the above as i demand lager.

Ordering a lager won't annoy them anything like going in, perusing all of the amazing cask beers on offer and then ordering a pint of John Smith's.

They are a welcoming bunch, always accepting of people that are wrong, I mean, different.

Plus, wear this and you'll be fine

North Brewery Taproom at One Snow Hill shut for good yesterday. Parent company went into administration.

The northern venues and brewery have been purchased via a pre-pack by Kirstall Brewery, but the Brum venue wasn't saved.

I must admit, I've never been there. Just slightly out of the way if i'm honest. still, sad to see a venue go.

This is a real hard one to take.

Pubs closing all over at the moment.

Bartons seem to be citing increased heating and electric costs and increasing staffing costs. The increased minimum wage seems to be sending a lot of businesses under.

I think breweries need to get real about how much they allow publicans to earn. They screw them left, right and centre.  If they have no pubs left to sell their wares they'll ultimately just suffer themselves.

Same with Government. A little less tax from a vibrant industry is better than no tax from a dead industry.

The Bartons is an absolute shining light of a pub and should be protected.

Awful news :(

Yep, they really do make it so hard for them and might I also add the public. Ridiculous pricing really .

I don't know what that means but a lot of hospitality businesses are struggling with it. That's a fact not a political statement or opinion.

1,2 & 3 tanked the economy.

4 and his ilk are using the Ukraine war to gouge us, so it costs more to transport anything anywhere or heat anything.

5 supplies the smoke and mirrors to pull off the above blags.

Add these factors to your valid one about breweries screwing landlords and we're identifying the causes of the problems, rather than a measure to stop thousands more sliding into poverty.

Surely the building itself is protected

Oh sure. We all know about the protected buildings that lay empty for decades rotting, bring vandalised until torched.
