I can not understand how anyone who is a working man/woman could even contemplate voting Tory.

 

Nearly half the UK population are now dependant on the state for either employment or benefits and Labour even moved middle-earners out of net tax contribution, which they were in 2001.

 

After going to so much trouble to make a Labour vote seem automatic based on self-interested, it is amazing that the Tories have a chance.

I am not sure the desire to **** somebody over can be classified as a trait exclusively enjoyed by tories.

 

Surely voting in a party which guarantees to force others to underwrite your life-style choices, is ******* over the person who has to pay the taxes, or the future generations who have to pay the debt?

For clarity, are you still talking about the tories in your second statement? Where the super rich get to evade tax whilst enjoying the benefits of life in the UK without the mundane bother of funding the NHS, policing or street cleaning? I can see how it's tiresome to pay tax when in truth much of the time you are on your yacht or watching a play in New York. But without these tory donors paying their fair share, yes it is unfortunately its the less financially and geographically mobile that are forced to pay the tax or feel the cuts.

It's also those middle tax paying  folk that have to pay the tax to subsidise the wages of 'poor' people and their subsidised lifestyles working for the mega rich tax dodging corporations.

Rifkind and Straw. If ever there was anything that demonstrated the rift between voters and those that are paid to represent them, I don't think I've ever seen a clearer example. 

 

He's taken money from a corporation in order to use parliamentary process and his influence on EU regulation to represent the interests of that corporation. That in itself makes me angry, we vote for politicians to represent us. In essence, they should be the thin grey suited line protecting public interest from corporate greed - that's what we pay them for, out of our tax like other public servants. If a teacher took money from Coke and made sure every kid in their school drank three cans a day and thought it was good for them, we'd sack em. If a policeman took money from Ford to make sure his force bought only their vehicles as patrol cars, we'd sack him.

 

It's not so much that they do it that infuriates me, it's their reaction - neither of them seem convinced they've done anything wrong. 

 

In my opinion we should be looking at prison sentences for both of these gentlemen, they've taken our money to perform a service and committed fraud. 

 

In their opinion, this isn't a matter that they should be considering resigning over.

 

We need a massive reform of the way we pay our MP's - for me there should be a salary and a special law which prevents them earning any other money whatsoever during their time in public service - if they are found to have any other earning whatsoever, they should be imprisoned. If they don't feel they can live on £60-100k a year, then they should be moved on and replaced with people that can.

 

We're voting for a bunch of crooks.

I guess, we as voters are responsible for voting these horrible greedy people in - and I'm not pointing at any one party here.

 

Austin Mitchell MP has suggested a paedo could be elected in his constituency as long as it was a Labour paedo. It's up to the people of Grimsby to react to that, I guess.

No MP should be able to work for anyone else apart from his constituency. Its standard in employment contracts for public sector staff and should be applied to them.

Whilst Rifkind saying he can't live on £67k a year is utter bollocks I do also agree that for the work they are required to do MPs are broadly on the same level as Head Teachers or GPs and should be paid accordingly, with the caveat they loose all rights to expenses beyond travel to and from Westminster and overnights at £100 a night.
