agreed, we should never raise taxes, we should cut taxes, especially for the rich and big companies - just cut more services and benefits in the name of austerity

otherwise Amazon and Apple and Starbucks and the guy running Boots might leave

given a choice of maintaining libraries or giving Amazon whatever they want there is only one logical choice

So Chrisp65 would you support this mansion tax that red ed is always harping on about?

I don't know the specifics of his planned tax, you'll have to forgive me I'm a lapsed Labour supporter.

But I wholeheartedly support the idea of the rich paying more than the poor. Be that cash rich, or property rich, or land rich or whatever.

For clarity, I don't mean somebody with £10 to their name should pay £1 tax and somebody with £1,000,000 to their name should pay £2 tax. I mean somebody with a million can live perfectly well after being taxed exponentially more than the poor guy.

20% for anything under it?

I'm not claiming to have just invented that idea, I'm saying that's how it would be if I was in charge.

Under a properly functioning socialist system there would not only be a minimum wage but there would be a maximum wage too.

Wages would be paid in coupons which would become worthless after a set period of time to prevent individuals accumulating wealth and therefore power.

Death duties would be 100%.

All capital accumulation would accrue to the state and so therefore there would be no need to have taxes at all.

you say you wnat the rich to pay more but at the moment

Over £150,000 45%

thats how much they pay thats more than double of anyone earning up to £41,865

How much would you like them to pay half of their salaries? (im not a millionaire btw) And the mansion tax is a london tax so its unfair and plain out stupid idea

It's really about redistribution of wealth. The share of the Nations wealth that the top 10% now have is heading towards the share they held in Victorian times. That is neither fair or sustainable. Tax amongst other things can help address this imbalance.

Top tax rate in Holland is 52% starting at €57,585. Companies pay their top people a bit less so they aren't as heavily taxed and the money saved goes to help raise wages for the rest of the employees.

But in Holland there isn't the culture of greed that we have in the UK.

Netherlands tax take as percentage of GDP = 39.8%

UK tax take as percentage of GDP = 39%

So their culture of greed is only 0.8% less than the UK.

But then the top 3000 earners provide more tax revenue than the bottom 9 million earners, so is the rich getting richer that bad an idea, especially if they are businessmen who employ large amounts of people? Just a genuine question, I don't know all the ins and outs of it.

Is that why you live in the UK ?
