As far as I know they can't. However if a reasonable offer was on the table it would make financial sense for him to sell as he would lose less money. Either way it looks like he's going to lose a shit ton of money.

To be fair those reported figures are most likely accurate given that when those players were signed, Jedinak/Lansbury the same figures were reported about their wages. I agree it's nothing to be outraged about though, we knew we were paying big wages all along. The reason to be outraged is the short term thinking at the club. You wouldn't run a corner shop like that.

Well it was reported during the season that we had the highest wage bill in the league, a rumoured £52m a year or £1m a week, so people shouldn't be surprised that are players are all on high wages.

No, it will be administration in the worst case with a 12 point deduction and probably a firesale of players. OR as hippo has above, someone buys us for below market value and inherits the debt.

He had a relegation reduction clause AFAIK. it was £65K a week in the premier league.

I hope a takeover goes through so we can get a new 5 year plan and a very high level description of all the stadium renovations that are going to be done, with possibly a mock up of our new 60K stadium with shopping centre/hotel complexes done in MS paint.

Didn't he claim to be a billionaire? Looks like £180m and a football club worth ~£75m is all he has.

Unless he wants to do some time in a chinese jail then his money is stuck in China, which is what I'm sure he knew would happen. That means that he doesn't have to spend anymore money on Villa and can just sell us off. It's clear he was just gambling with the club and now that his gamble failed he's protecting his assets. If we got promoted he would have just pocketed the TV money and tried to sell us off.

I'm not saying that the plan was wrong, maybe just the execution, but the important thing is that we are not being persecuted by FFP, we gambled and lost so now we have to pay the piper.

We won't be able to launch the kit until the deals with Unibet and Under Armour expire. I assume the end date of those deals is in July. If the kit maker and shirt sponsor is staying the same, like Liverpool's, then you can launch your new kit in May.

only 3 years younger is not a small amount in football terms given that a career at championship/premier league level is typically ~10 years (21-31) in total.

yep and the plan was also shit or bust, i.e. go all out for promotion with absolutely no long term planning whatsoever. Instead of buying young players with good potential who could be with the clubs for a few years or be sold for a profit, the plan was just spend the money and hope promotion would cover up the shortfall. The chickens are coming home to roost and we deserve all the FFP problems we have.

No he didn't. He looked waaayyy over priced given his age and lack of any sell on value. Also even a small amount of research would have revealed that his off the pitch behaviour meant he was a huge risk.

2 more years left on his contract, assuming his liver doesn't pack up before then.
