  1. The guy who owns and produces Jsoccer magazine http://www.jsoccer.com/ is a Villa fan, I will have to see if he has any inside gossip.
  2. Latest from Twitter: ITK TRANSFER ‏@ITK_TRANSFER 58m Aston Villa have now made a bid for Hiroshi Kiyotake which is being considered by his club. #avfc ITK TRANSFER ‏@ITK_TRANSFER 53m @HeartOfTheHolte Roughly 4.5m mate, Think it will be rejectef though, Heard one of your main sponsers has given money towards the deal
  3. We was some young goalie from Norwich I think - Jedd something
  4. Didnt Kendrick say that we wasnt interested in Tonev just before we signed him?
  5. What does Des Lyman think of it all?
  6. No problems with Barry leaving especially when ONeil was matching his ambitions by bringing in the likes of Marlon Harewood! He simply echoed a lot of our own thoughts. Our heads were telling us it wasnt going to happen (Break Top 4) but out hearts were telling us otherwise. Same with Southgate he wanted to do well with Villa, he wanted to Captain a successful Villa Team. He reached the point where he couldn't stay so when offered a way out he went to boro. I dont think Southgate could just stay and go through the motions. Would I have Barry back? Unsure. We do need a captain, something that was missing last year, but for every return of Cowans makes you think this may work you think of Andy Gray's return and the skys go black again.
  7. Arsenal did not secure our Premier League Status. Aston Villa secured their own status by managing to gather enough points to stay up. Wigan in the same amount of games did not gather enough points so they went down. We didnt make it easy for ourselves and left it a bit late but the points gained were of our own doing. We was not awarded more points because Arsenal managed to beat Wigan.
  8. So are you saying Paul Lambert it is better than Ron Saunders Arriving? Which was 1974 and within your 40 yr mark. Saunders took a middle Div 2 side which had been in Div 3 more recently than Div 1, to Div 1 Champions in 6 years. Also Graham Taylor MK 1 did a hell of lot of good restructuring the club at the end of the 80s. Creating the start of the solid youth platform we have today. Due to the GT MKII we seem to forget what a total mess the club was in when he arrived. I think Lambert has the making of a manager that could potentially reach Saunders levels but he hasnt proven anything just yet. Taylor, Little, Gregory, Atkinson, O'Leary and O'Neil all had a better first full seasons. Next Season we can see if he is the person we think he is and hope he can be.
  9. ITK TRANSFER ‏@ITK_TRANSFER23m Jores Okore and Nicklas Helenius might not be the on Denmark internationals on their way to Villa Park.... #avfc
  10. Ellis was not at the club when we won the League or the European Cup and therefore not there when Saunders resigned.
  11. Villa could Slide all the way down into Sunday league football but they will never ever be a Nothing Club. Sorry double post!
  12. We could slide all the way down and into Non-League but Villa would never ever be a nothing club!
  13. The five year contract was to offset the wages he was on at City. So he took a paycut on his say 2/3 yrs left on at city per year but by being given 5 years he would get the same money. That is my understanding. But I agreed with Trent, I didnt want him here in the first place. He causes chaos in every defense he plays
  14. Glad he is finally out of the club as it will end the debate whether he should play again. But he was good for us in his first season then a car crash under Houllier. He came back and helped us limp over the line under McDonut. Without him I do not think we would have made it. Let him go and move on. Just watch Sunderland to see how things were under ONeil as I expect them to be a bit more open than VIlla
  15. Though I haven't enjoyed the stress of this season and I did think we were gone as late as March I do see this season as a success in terms of stopping the rot. At the end of last season the atmosphere was terrible: The appointment of Mcliesh and the football that followed had sucked all joy out of the club. One year on and we have more points, more goals etc. A young and going by past couple of months vibrant team. I do think next season we could go and shock a few teams, but of course depends on how well we shape up defensively. History often gives pointers to the future and the current situation is a reminder of end of 1976 season. Survived relegation and went on to build an exciting attacking team. Probably one of the most exciting Villa teams in modern history led by a young 3 man attack in Little, Gray and Deehan. Two villa youth added by an import from a foreign league. For this team to really improve we need to replace Petrov properly and find ourselves a Leader. We need a proper captain.
  16. Isn't that what happened in 1981? I know we were knocked out by cambridge in the league cup cant remember who knocked us out in the FA Cup though.
  17. As well as Wordpress there is also Joomla. Find a theme you like which can set you back upto $100 and tweak. You can buy addons that will handle paid subscriptions and Video services. You can start a proof of concept site that you build yourself using one of the content management (Wordpress/Joomla) and see how it goes. If things are successful you can then start talking to the guy for the £11,000 version. Best to find out if your idea for a site is actually a good one and has a user base before spending thousands making it look pretty and all dancing to find no one wants to visit. I have a dedicated box/server sitting int he states that I use to test my ideas. I will put a site on there and watch what the stats say. If the stats show promise I can move the site to a better host and think about improving the site.
  18. Lowton's Goal is simply better as he scored it for us when we really needed it. I dont care about who scored QPR's goal as long as they stopped Wigan winning.
  19. We live in Northern Ireland where the following is usually (apart from Celtic/Rangers) man u or Liverpool. Chelsea have started appearing. Seen a few Leeds and West Ham. Taking my son to his first game next month. He wants to be a Villa fan and wears his kit with pride at school. When I was in a shop the other day and said some thing about Barca and he said he didnt want Barca he wanted Villa. So Job Done.
  20. If you had Guzan in goal instead of Given then those situations would probably not have occurred. I did not want Given in the first place. He is a excellent shot stopper which makes him look better than he is. Something to think about - Newcastle, Man City and then Villa. Everywhere he has gone he has looked good but the defense fell to pieces and started to leak goals. He goals and the same defense looks better. A bit like Spinky he doesnt comand the defense well enough but is a good goalkeeper. At Villa we sold the defense off and kept Given!
  21. I have just recieved an email about reductions in price for the kit (£20). Are they getting a new kit or just changing the Sponsor? I will be after a childs kit for my boys so changing the sponsor will not affect their kits. If a new kit is coming out I will have to hold back.
  22. They are saying now that VP is the difference, but before the season started they said Fergie had bought the wrong player as there was not much wrong with the Front Line and he should have been buying a mdifielder instead. Especially with Giggs and Scholes being soo old (yet younger than me!) I probably head these view on various podcasts that include Football Weekly, The Game and Football Ramble.
  23. The Villa team that won the league had no regular internationals so we didnt have the top dollar team at the time. It just takes a team to take the balls not to sell off their best players straight away. Something Villa did try with Barry when liverplop came sniffing. That time Villa didnt pick up the chalange and show Barry they were pushing on. The thing that has changed is not so much the money but the power given to the players to move easily and run down contracts. But perhaps if something can be built that the players, fans and management can buy into and go with then anything is possible. Spurs is best example. They make it very hard for teams coming in to poach their top players. If their players do get sold on they get good money to reinvest into the team and make it stronger. Wasnt too long ago that Spurs were struggling the same as we are now. Fergie best work at Man U has been building the team ethos and mindset we are all in this together. For past 5 odd years they are written off yet are always in or abouts the league title. This season the 'experts' said he had bought the wrong player in Van Persie, yet look at where they are now. Once there not may of the fringe players complain or try and leave.
  24. Wasnt long ago that Spurs were in the same position as us and built a young team that took them up the table. Their fans seem to forget these and are very arrogant about their status in the game. Benteke is just what Spurs need though.
