  1. The bigging up of the O'Neil years always makes me smile. No higher than 6th and didn't win a trophy.
  2. Are Norwich the only ones who accuse us of not doing things correctly? Since Lerner took over the majority of teams have come out and praised how Villa have conducted themselves during transfers.
  3. Didn't GT in his first spell put a 20 mile radius on where the players should live? This was to get the players to be more integrated with the club.
  4. Prefer not to get the PM and then it remains a suprise!
  5. My Ancestors lived on that street (James Turner St) about 80 years ago!
  6. If we was going to spend money in Jan would be shouting it out, no you plead povity so other clubs do not try to rip you off and overpay.
  7. Surely the Guy Tan at Cardiff is worse
  8. How long did Petrov take to settle in and he was only coming in from Scotland
  9. Ive been watching villa for 40 years - seen some great teams 1974/5 Promotion & League Cup Double winning side 1977 - league Cup winning side 1980/81 - Championship Side 1982 - Nuff Said 1989/90 - Runner up team Graham Taylor The Cup winning teams of Big Ron + Brain Little None of the teams above had rookies playing at cenre back. Its often overlooked but the 1980/81 team was packed with players around 20 years old - Yet we had 2 stalwarts Evans/Mcnaught at centre half 1982 team started to fall apart when local lad Brendan Ormsby was given a run at CB after the sale of Mcnaught. ...You need senior pro's at the back.... I'm sorry but what relevance do seasons that happened decades ago have to today? There's no point in living in the past. You need good players at the back, just like everywhere else. We looked great defensively under Vlaar and Clark despite the fact that Clark could hardly be described as a "senior pro". Because if you do not review what went on in the past how do you learn so you take the correct path in the future? History is more than just a collection of stories.
  10. A thing to remember is that we moved from Perry Barr to Villa Park in the first place to help the progress of the club. If moving gives us a new lease of life then is it such a bad thing? Also I think I saw recently Barca were considering building a new stadium which would also be their third. Hell even Walsall moved from Fellows Park to Bescot to host our reserves
  11. I really do not care who is to blame, I just want it fixed. Something that Lambert did that should not be unappreciated is that he has stopped the rot. We might not be much better than the previous season but we are not getting worse which was happening before he arrived. In recent history when we have had quick fixes it has fallen flat again a couple of years later. Im recalling Taylor MK1: Brought us back from Div2, Survived Div 1 then runners up. He left and we nearly get relegated again under Venglos Atkinson : Turns from nearly relegated to 6th and then runners up, then 11th I think (with a CUp Win mind) and back to nearly relegated Little Comes in : We survive Relegation (See Atkinson) then Finish 4th, 6th and we were in a low position when he left Gregory: Steadies ship and gets 6th, 5th or was it 6th and then leaves. Taylor MKII - We nearly get relegated DOL : 4th, then 11th and then flirting again with relegation. MON : 11th, 6th, 6th, 6th Best consistency but could make the next step up Lets forget next two Lambert : Survives relegation ............. Going Back Saunders took us up in 75 from Div II. 16th First Season in Div 1, 4th in Div 1, 6th, and then I think 7th or 8th and then CHAMPIONS. He took five years to develop his team and built three 'sides' in that period. People are too impatient now. Steady improvement will do me. We need to give Lambert time and he will make mistakes, but how many of us thought Saunders had lost it selling Gray and Gidman.
  12. Should Randy not get some credit for accepting something wasnt working and try a different route no matter how painful. Sometimes the hardest thing is to accept you got it wrong. He rolled the dice and we didn't get to the Champions League, but couldn't keep spending the way we had. He had to bring us within budget and despite what people claim money was not just cut off. Unfortunatly we had a couple of missteps in managers. We appear to be on the right road now and one which manager and chairmen are in sync.
  13. Looking at the papers they do not seem to rate Villa this season. Collymore praises the club and but then predicts we will only come one place higher than last year.
  14. Look now he is back in training the other players and the coaches etc will be in his ear trying to get him to stay. Villa let him have the extra time off to aloow him and SPurs to come up with a deal. Spurs have let him down big time. Look at David Villa Spurs dithered the same way so he went elsewhere.
  15. Hadnt Carew by Benteke's age already won a Champs League medal?
  16. What doesnt Kill us and all that Part of that isn't true, in my opinion. He looked completely lost for a good few weeks post Christmas. We couldn't but a win from anywhere, everything went against us. He looked old, war torn. I thought he might throw it in. But I'm thankful he didn't. He's doing a magnificent job right now, long may it continue.
  17. I loved knowing Carew was leading the line. He didnt get on with Houllier so he stood no chance with him BUT I dont remember him trying to disturb the squad like Dunne for example. Bent is a great player but he doesnt suit the style of play we have now. Also he hasn't been the same since his injury. Benteke suited the system we played last season. How many goals were due to Weinman? One in my head is I think against QPR where the wee man skipped past players and cut back for CB who nearly fluffed it but it went in.
  18. Everyone keeps mentioning 80million for Bale therefore 30 milion for Benteke. How about they fleeced us for 4-5 million for Hutton so 40 million for Benteke
  19. Here's a question for him, does he see any similarities in this situation and his situation when he almost left us to join sha in a £600k deal I was pretty young at the time but: No cause that was 1979 after being part of the first team since 1972. Failed a medical for SHA due to dodgy knee and didnt really play again. Add to that the boy Shaw was ready to take his place and the Villa Team had evolved to the hustle and bustle counter attack team that looked like it could achieve something!
  20. I thought you said he is off to Turkey
  21. Maybe we should just let him go: Born: DR Congo, 3 December 1990 Clubs: Standard Liege 2009-2011 Kortrijk (loan) 2009-10 Mechelen (loan) 2010-11 Genk 2011-12 Aston Villa 2012- This was on the BBC site so he hasn't played more than one season for any team.
  22. Barry and Southgate put in a shift even though they voiced a desire to leave. Now when you talk about Steve Hodge and Dwight Yorke.....
  23. Im not gutted he has done this now, in fact Im glad it is now rather than at the beginning of the season like Yorke. If he wants to go let him go but on our terms. For us old guys Andy Gray leaving was the end of the world but we bought Withe at half the price. Platt left and we bought nearly a new team. Yorke left and we bought Merson and Dublin. It isnt always the end of the world
  24. The Value of the players go down over the period of the contract. So Bent was £18 Mill - 24 Mill 2.5 years ago he could be considered only worth 8-10 million now. If we only get 6 million for him the dent in the accounts for the year is only 2 million. Given was 3.5 million 2 seasons ago and at his age getting a million now could be considered good buisness. Ireland and Hutton - Lets forget those two for now. As all of them will not be contributing to next season they can all be seen as a drain and liability on the accounts, so getting any money for them is a bonus. Just depends how you look at it. To me Bent and Given have repaid their fees by being the main players in keeping us up for a couple of seasons. Shame Bent didnt work out but now is the time to move him on.
  25. Well Kiyotake knows all about Villa as a good friend of his in Japan is a Villa nut. Hopefully he has been brainwashed
