  1. To be honest, i dont think Cash is that inconsistent, i just think he is very good defensively, but about as much use as a chocolate fireguard going forward, which is just more and more apparent when he is asked to play like a wing back. I completely agree that McGinn is inconsistent, he could be the poster boy for inconsistency. i think the problem with both of these players (McGinn & Cash), imo they suit a quick back to front style of play (the style we seemed to actually start playing under Smith in the last 6-12 months - punting the lines), where its all urgency, bluster, hitting the lines and progressing as quickly as possible, with limited technicality, however i also think its abundantly clear that neither of them are suited to a technical, short passing, possession style, they just cant do it, and never will be able to. I cant get my head around Konsa, he looked great early on with us, but seems to have regressed, i dont think its inconsistency, he just started to look great, then has got progressively worse, or less confident, or something, not sure what to make of him right now tbh. Of the 3, i 100% dont think Cash or McGinn suit the way Gerrard wants to play, or could play that system competently.
  2. versus Newcastle, for me......the problems were Cash, Luiz, McGinn & Watkins, predominantly.
  3. Ben Brereton Diaz for Blackburn looks a tidy forward, just watching the WBA/Blackburn game.

    Matty Cash

wouldnt read too much in to that tbh, they had prob had a total roasting in the dressing room, and they were all probably realising that rather than getting a Daddy Smith Hug, they will all be getting a Gerrard Hulk Smash.
  5. i dont see anything like that on his Instagram, unless someone can find it.
  6. well, i could be wrong, but pretty sure it was a 2 game ban.
  7. Konsa cant come back in, he is banned (was a 2 match ban, not 1).
  8. blimey, i didnt see that, was he?!!?
  9. if he does, he does. I think what Carragher said is right, fooled once, shame on them, fooled twice, shame on you. I will hope he has more sense, than to make the same mistake twice.
  10. he was originally a RB, converted to a CB when he joined Arsenal, but also played DM at Fulham when on a 12 month loan.
  11. as clockwork. Last week, my missus said..."oh you are 3-1 up, you got this in the bag" (versus Leeds), i said...."babes, this is Villa, we are weak minded and panic merchant chicken heads, we will probably concede 2". ...quell surprise! Yesterday, i said....on this forum!, we have two possible outcomes versus Newcastle: 1) We provide an assured attacking performance and possibly win. 2) We once again, show a weak minded, panic merchant chick head performance, and lose, cus thats what we do. I said option 2 was most likely. .....quell surprise! This team has many problems, physical prowess/athleticism problem, mental problem, composure problems......many problems....the squad needs gutting in the summer, it needs to be a blood bath, as i have said many times, imo there are only 5 or so players in our first 11, who are good enough to challenge for top 6/8, the rest are just simply not good enough, or squad players at best (im not including the youth in this, im talking about the senior players). We massively overrate some of our players. Hopefully Gerrard will tear this team apart in the summer.
  12. i know this is probably completely unrealistic, but this is what i would try to do......... (with obviously variance in specific income, or specific spend on positions - im just trying to give an overview).
  13. tbh, i think only Ramsey is good enough/or high potential enough to be a nailed on starter in our midfield 3. For me, the others just arent good enough, squad players certainly, but defo not pushing for top 6/8 starting 11 quality. The only unknown on that imo is Sanson, as tbh, we havent seen him for a run of games, he may be, he may not be, who knows. I can guarantee Luiz & McGinn arent good enough though (for anything other than a mid or lower end PL club)
  14. is there a link to his interview anywhere??
  15. 5 in 12 since Gerrard took over.....
  16. yeah, but its 2 in 7 in the PL, so we are both right i suppose!
  17. ye impossible to lose to Watford. We absolutely spanked them earlier in the season. oh wait.........
  18. not a free pass, but an appreciation of the fact that he hasnt even had a single summer window to improve his squad, with players he wants. Smith had trouble with the performance levels of this squad, it seems Gerrard is having similar issues, however, i think Gerrard will be able to attract much higher calibre players this summer, so im willing to see how it goes and give him some time, just as Smith was given time.
  19. our current squad isnt good enough, for anyone short of the Lord himself to push it towards European football. Which is why i think it will be a very, very busy summer, if Gerrard wants to have a team that is actually capable of that.
  20. Luiz maybe, possibly he would look better in a Man City type team where he has ages on the ball, and little defensive responsibility..........unfortunately we arent one of those teams. With regard to McGinn, i would literally give you £50 if he proved a success at a top team, he has some big strengths, but some glaring weaknesses, like he cant pass the ball 5 yards properly, and has zero composure in tight spaces.
  21. thats one reason im happy to not remotely judge Gerrard until next season, when he has a summer window to bring in players he wants, and offload players he doesnt. I think you are right though, i can see a blood bath in the summer. I just hope...really hope....any poor form this season doesnt impact our chances to get Coutinho permanently, as for me, he and Buendia are the two players we should be building the team around.
  22. neither Luiz or McGinn are good enough for a premier league team with desire beyond a bottom half finish imo.
  23. pulling the wool over some peoples eyes, and convincing them he's good at something.
