  1. add Sanson to that in terms of "best play", when kamara was at CB, Feeney also, with Carlos, Timmy & Sanson, i thought we controlled the ball really well.
  2. honestly, i thought Kamara looked better at CB than at DM, but ofc that may not translate to the more physical/pace of the PL.
  3. is it that talkspert thing? cant see anything on sky.
  4. this makes about as much sense as a riddle. Not sure how he needs to "understand if there is a chance to leave on a free". I mean.....you run your contract down....simples.......
  5. i think Alvarez rejected us, which is why we didnt trigger his release. I remember an interview with Emi 1 where he said something like "i tried to convince Alvarez to join me at Villa". He didnt say he failed, but by default if he was trying to convince him, it clearly didnt work (if we were serious about him).
  6. i did want to say that, but i couldnt be bothered with the agg!!
  7. yeah, more the way he helped the build up from the back, then driving runs through the midfield before an intelligent lay off. He was dropping back and interchanging passes with Carlos, Kamara and Couts to help us play out from the back (very well i might add), then when he did get the ball further up, he was either just very composed and crisp with his passing, or a couple of times he drove forward sprinting with the ball then offloading when needed. Basically, he wasnt doing the McGinn "30 second highlight reel - then terrible the rest of the time", Sanson was just really good and involved in all link up play. When Timmy and Sanson came on, and Kamara dropped to CB, i was the first time in the match that we started controlling possession, and building from the back without losing it.
  8. i know its only pre-season, so who knows what the first few games will bring. However, watching the pre season games, when you compare Carlos, Mings and Konsa, watching Carlos just shows what real quality is and what it looks like, Carlos is just so composed, so good on the ball, pinging passes around like its nothing. Actually seeing that kind of quality in our central defence, really highlights just what a top player looks like, and for all our arguments and debates about how good our CD's were, Carlos just highlights the gap between a top level player and average players. Hopefully his form will transfer to PL games, we will soon see!
  9. I agree that to some degree we seem to have issues shifting players. However, at the same time, i think a lot of us have our Villa rose tinted glasses on and vastly overrate some of our players, leading to us being confused why we cant sell them for 10/20/30m etc. Usually its because they arent as good as we think they are, or maybe its partly that and add the fact we gave them insane wages so they just arent attractive purchases at a reasonable transfer value. I think the truth is a mixture of all the above. ie: Traore is rumoured to be on 70/80k a week, who is gonna pay 15m for him and pick up those wages? Davis is rumoured to be on 30k+ a week, who is gonna pay 10m for him and pick up those wages? Nakamba & El Ghazi are prob on 30k + a week, who is gonna pay a reasonable fee and take those wages for honestly, a very poor player? Ings is on prob 120k a week, do you think there is any other scenario than we run down the last 2 years on his contract, and he leaves on a free? (i hope we dont trigger his 1 year extension either....)
  10. i think for once, im gonna defend the squad here. If a mid table PL team has Coutinho, Buendia & Bailey, and we are complaining about lack of creativity, i 100% think we need to look at the tactics and coaching, rather than the players in that scenario. Most teams in the PL would give their right arm for just one of those three players, let alone all 3. I do think we have a striker problem (which could impact it if the lone striker has poor movement, vision, composure etc), and possibly still a DM/CM problem, but i honestly cant accept we have a creativity problem on paper, but i do agree that for some reason, those creative players arent creating much, or maybe its partly the way they are asked to play, or the lack of movement/options around them. I think we are two players away from a very, very good side (striker and midfielder), if that team isnt performing, then its on the management, tactics and coaching for me.
  11. he's not good enough to play further up field for us, who out of Coutinho, Buendia & Bailey would he replace?, he's not technically better than any of them. He;s also not good enough in the defensive midfield, so wont replace any of them. He's a good low possession, fast paced type of player who runs around a lot and gets on the end of some balls, basically exactly what we dont need.
  12. Comically lost the ball a couple of times, one nearly led to a goal. Watching McGinn failing to control or pass a football properly, when we have some sublime passers like Carlos, Coutinho, Kamara etc around him, just makes it all the more painful to watch.
  13. is he fit? wasnt even on the bench for todays Cardiff game?
  14. didnt start well for Deano's Norwich, lost 1-0 to Cardiff. They really should have the talent in their squad to come straight back up, no excuses really, will be interesting to see how they do.
  15. to be fair, i have read "my story". A very good read.
  16. Watkins would have tried to take 5 touches there.
  17. looked good, he's a bit of a Digne clone tbh.
  18. c**p again, lost the ball a few times in really simple ways. Sanson replaced him and looked way better. The mind boggles.
  19. ironically he looked super at CB alongside Carlos, the two of them pinging balls around was sublime. I dont remember the last time i saw two Villa CBs pinging the ball around like that.
  20. quality vs Rennes. No idea why he isnt starting tbh.
  21. i like Archer, but he has a lot of work to do on his all round game.
