  1. Brand new stadium with ready made FFP maximising capabilities as well. They'll definitely be the target of a buyout but they might want a bit more than Lerner then xia did when selling us

    Jhon Durán

I wonder if it's people forgetting that he's 19. He had the build, confidence, and really first team experience (in a weaker league) of someone at least 2 years older. Maybe the cost relative to our most expensive signing as well. Whilst not much in the context of the current market and his potential, it is a lot for a club that had only spent more than on a player a handful of times.
  3. Functional toilets can be added to the things they fix at the same time as they put in the self service areas. Obviously the number of them stays the same, so you are right it potentially exacerbates an existing issue around queueing for toilets. Again... this should be evident from what they've seen in the lower holte.
  4. I think an extra drink per fan is probably not far off a reasonable guess of lost income. A fair chunk of fans, like @HanoiVillan, will get nothing at the moment because they're not willing to miss any of the game. They should have the sales data from the lower holte pre-self serve and post self-serve. They don't need to be geniuses in data analytics to look at that, see the increase, then expand that data across the capacity of the stadium. I am genuinely amazed that they didn't roll it out anywhere else during the off season.
  5. Fair point, well made. Wasn't aware we had that many on 3 years either.
  6. With the will known caveats about opposition quality.... It seems clear Emery has realised the approach we take when playing Digne instead of Moreno has to play to Digne's strengths. The sign of a good manager is working with what he has. Digne hasn't been asked to take men on against Hibs, or really even asked to get to the edge of the penalty area quite like Moreno does. As much as his pace limitations as a dribbler make him worse than Moreno when playing the Moreno-role, Emery just comes up with a slightly different play style to utilise his strengths. Clearly he can't just ask Digne to cross from deep instead of running with the ball. He needs to make sure Watkins and the other forward(s) are aware of this style change. Those crosses don't just find a player by chance. The quality of the delivery matters (Digne has that), but it needs Watkins to be expecting it instead of expecting to make a late run on to a well worked opening from Moreno. Maybe its taken a while for the change to click so Digne wasn't looking as good as he is now before. Let's see if it works against better opposition now...
  7. I meant in respect of it being longer than any other player. Useless was suggesting it was based solely on her ability... but if it were then other women's team players would have longer contacts. I dont believe any do. Maybe its just the start of a new model we're following for the women's team though, so yes there are other possible explanations. Edit: Pacheco only got an extra year added to her one year remaining a couple of weeks ago, but then Anna patten got 3 years last month so maybe it is the start of a trend for longer contracts, for those that will sign them.
  8. Previously run by the club for the fans. Now run by a company for profit. They'll sell what sells (assuming their atrocious manufacturing and logistics functions can make them and get them to villa park). On topic: the club dont need to justify increases in season ticket prices when we're winning and theres a 30k waiting list. But you would expect them to care about the service (or lack thereof) the fans are getting.
  9. But shes far from the best or most key player in the squad. It seems logically that the reason she got a 3 year contract wont be solely down to her footballing ability. And yes, it is a serious operation, but so are mens teams and we've seen them sign players that would have questionable value at the price paid, if it weren't for the exposure and shirt sales they generated. Do any of the other women's team have such a long contract?
  10. Do we know for sure that he was fit to play last night (ignoring the fact that he wasn't eligible). I guess even if he is not injured, he won't be match fit enough to start against Burnley
  11. If he's old then most of us here are ancient
  12. Ahh, I thought they dropped into Europa. Fair enough, I'll let them off this time.
  13. Different competition though, wtf has UCL qualifying got to do with the conference league qualifying. Uefa making things up as they go along.
  14. Will Watkins goals count towards the golden Boot for the tournament or will they only count from the group stage?
  15. Just came to post this, it's such a lovely video. Reignites my desire for him to come good. He's got it in him...somewhere.
  16. Zaniolo would also be able to play one of those forward roles when we play with 3 also. I think we're covered at the top, even without Archer. It's the Buendia deeper role that we're short on. Archer ultimately just doesn't suit any of those roles, and so only plays if we're completely mixing it up, which we've not really seen happen in Emery's time.
  17. Are they all just really rubbish and they need an upgrade? Seems a strange signing for them if they already have 3 forwards around his age, one in his prime, and another first choice option (probably ahead of Cam) due back from injury shortly ?
  18. We've seen ao far this season that all 5 of our goals have come from different players. We aren't dependent on Watkins as a goal scorer. We are dependent on him pressing the defence to prevent them having the time to pick out a long pass over our high line. The kind of skillset we need for our preferred style of play isn't made any weaker by selling Archer. We lost an option to change it up, but it seems Duran is favored for that option. The way Archer was only brought on because of an injury tells us he's not in Emery's preferred first or second choice plans. I'll be sad to see him go, but seems its for his benefit if he does. Although Aaron's latest tweet may suggest that's not quite the done deal the news is reporting... hmm.
  19. One of the last of our youth crop (along with Davis) where we missed the boat on selling them for a decent fee. I guess we're hoping that he does something amazing this season and attracts attention from a club in the champ with money. Can't think of any other reason we extend the contract but continue to loan him at the age he is. Decent player and definitely Championship quality. Don't the ceiling gets much higher for him.
  20. You already got a reply but 3 years is, incredibly, unusually long in the women's game. I'm not sure if it's the nature of the sport, where maybe the salaries are a much higher ratio compared with the transfer fees that get paid, hence its not worth giving them a long contract to protect the asset. Maybe with Lehmann there's more of a marketable aspect to her being with us that any other women's player, which brings value beyond the transfer fee/ ability, hence the long contract.
  21. The suggestion to do it by game would also mean you get the people in there that want to be there on that day and will likely spend more there than someone who just happens to be there (again...) just because that was the only way they could get a ticket. It's a much better model surely.
  22. We'd apparently signed Tammy Abraham until he got injured. I'd guess though that the pen for Zaniolo includes either him or Diaby as the backup striker options, with the other taking the place of the one that moved to forward (and then rotating with Bailey). I think we'll look more for a winger or hard pressing number 10 type, and then the wing back positions.
  23. Imagine the joy it would have brought Jacob to play alongside his brother in the PL for Villa. Or to be subbed off for him to come on. Its a shame that the debut where that happens is at best a couple of years off. I hope we get to see it one day.
  24. It's really quite sad. They just got it so so wrong. They can't exactly get rid of it now. They could just open it up as a free access area, but there not making money off that. Upgrade the rest of the upper holte to be self-serve auto in out and they make some of the money back in speed of service and selling more. But then TTV area becomes even less appealing. I just don't know what they're thinking.
