  1. If that was Tim, he'd be holding up a gilet.

A lot of the potential talent is hoovered up by the big clubs regardless of whether they are good enough or not. They can send them out in loan and let the other clubs do the work for them. If they don't make it then they lose a few million in kids they don't expect anything from. Just one makes the grade and they've effectively more than made their money back. The overhaul of the scouting will take time, I think you're expecting too much, too soon although I would hope we can pluck a few gems. Bjarnason is that sort of gamble. They won't all pay off and I can understand why Bruce is getting assured quality in now. The problem with modern day football is that the likes of Bruce can't plan or build for years like managers used to. Everything has to be right now. Glen Whelan or Kante from Ligue 2. I suspect most managers would have gone with Whelan. Clubs sign players without managers emerge they trust the scouts. That sort of infrastructure will take time to implement and if we do go for that then all future managers will need to understand it.
  3. Indeed. It's all about balance. I suspect last season with Terry and Whelan we wouldn't have lost so many points in the last 5/10 mins of games.
  4. Well yes, obviously, the point is when added to all the other names, we're not a grandad squad. Most teams have more over 30's than us. It's hardly a problem when the majority of the players are under 30.
  5. Johnstone, Bree, Chester, Taylor, Lansbury, Hourihane, Bjarnason, Hogan, Elmohamady, Kodjia, all under 30. What are you whinging about?
  6. Solid player. Nothing to tingle the nether regions but not all good signings do. I reckon he'll shut a few up on here soon enough and if it's me, I'll hold my hands up. I doubt it though.
  7. Yeah, he gets into some cracking positions but quite poor in the ball. He could have had 2/3 last night with some half decent finishing. Simple passes failing to find our men (many guilty of this last night). Can't fault his effort and he obviously has a brain on him to keep finding space in the box.
  8. That is shocking from Bruce, regardless of what you may think of Tishbola's ability. He's absolutely humiliated him there. Very poor.
  9. Probably best to see how 5 at the back works in terms of results before calling for heads to roll. Chelsea won the league last season doing it.
  10. Never mind, just checked, all 3 friendlies are still there in full to be streamed. Nice one
  11. Can you watch them after or are they only there live?
  12. Don't most players outside of the lower leagues donate the proceeds to charity these days? He's been a one club guy, through better and worse. I think he should get one and then hopefully donate the proceeds. He was linked with the likes of Utd when he was unplayable at times and never kicked up a fuss or suggested he wanted to move on. It'd be extremely fickle to ignore the good years and just use the last few to slap him about verbally.
  13. In terms of CB in a 3-5-2. Chester plays on the right of the 3 with Ashley Williams in the middle, Ben Davies as the left CB with Neil Taylor as the left wing back for Wales. Chester and Taylor are used to it. Terry would replace Ashley Williams and Baker in for Ben Davies for balance. We have flexibility to do it if we want.
  14. I thought Harry Redknapp's pet candle owned Recon?
  15. Probably because Bosnich was having to deal with far more shots. Shit comparison. Also maybe half decent initial positioning by Johnstone means he doesn't have to pull of constant worldies. Being in the right place initially doesn't look half as decent as flying through the air though...
  16. We've just signed another youngster. Then there's the likes of Johnstone, Bree, Hogan, Green, Grealish, Davis, Hepburn-murphy, that one we signed from Bury in January. Villa don't have a really old team, there's this myth that we're some grandad club and it's rubbish. There were times last season when the experience of the likes of Whelan and Elmohamady would have helped us hold on to 3 points in games rather than chuck them away. A few older players arriving for a season or 2 isn't a negative. But yeah, Brentford signing some promising youngster from League 2 means they'll finish higher than us. Science.
  17. Surprised Hawwy Wedknapp hasn't tried to get him, despite the rivalry. Or Samba for that matter. Does Micah actually think he has a place here. I genuinely can't tell as he was brave enough to be one of the few British players to move abroad and give it a go. I think we've sucked the life out of him and likewise he's sucked a lot out of the club. When I hear him talk, he seems like an alright guy and not a complete moron. I don't blame him for staying in big money but he's set for life already, why not move and just enjoy playing weekly again. Villa paying half his current deal whilst another club takes on the rest wouldn't leave him out of pocket and he can enjoy the prospect and buzz of playing again. I don't have hate for him like many on here. I don't think he's a great player anymore but when he does play, I don't think that he's not trying. Like someone mentioned, he probably tries too much to influence when there's no need. If he played and just half-hearted everything then I'd get it but I've never got that vibe from him and therefore can't quite get on board with the nastier comments. Don't read that as me wanting him to stay.
  18. What do Snapchat, Instagram, Bebo, MySpace and Shaft Bible have to say about this?
  19. I'm after some assistance if possible, please. For a few years I've been using the fantasy football team name of Mellberg's Beard. It's alright but I'm hoping you guys can come up with something better and punnier. Mellberg only please. Thanks you kind souls.
  20. I've always quite liked Elmohamady when I've seen him play. I don't get the stick or slating of him. I absolutely agree we don't need him given what we have but that's a different matter altogether.
  21. Anybody saying no thanks to Hart joining Villa are off their heads. He's not the best English keeper and he makes a few clangers but overall he's a bloody good keeper still.
  22. It's easy to forget this is a player who was approaching 30 goals for the past few seasons. He's obviously had his struggles but I think he's worth another shot. Getting in his case does neither him or the club any favours. Come on Ross, show us the lethal, creative player we've seen for the numerous years.
