  1. So the Odysseus landed then. Despite its laser guidance packing in. Fortunately NASA just happened to have some spare lasers on board. That they somehow hooked up to the navigation computer so it could work out what height it was at. What kind of crazy Star Trek nonsense is that? I can just hear Geordi saying, "rerouting secondary laser guidance to the navigation computer" now.
  2. So was the red bull actually the same as the one at the reveal? There was some talk that it was a fake and wouldn't actually have the Mercedes-like sidepod stuff.
  3. I suppose the hope is that these institutions don't rely entirely on council funding (which is pretty likely). But it's going to hit hard regardless.
  4. If this tweet about the arts is to be believed I don't think there will be any Birmingham Life in the future....
  5. It's an athletics stadium and that's what it should remain. It's not like the London Olympics stadium that didn't exist beforehand. The rugby appears not to happen in the main stadium at all but in the small warmup area area to the side. Can't see how that would be appropriate for our women's team.
  6. Postal addresses aside, Sutton Park rules.
  7. Postal address for Streetly is Sutton Coldfield. It is also (along the Thornhill Road and Streetly Road stretches which includes Streetly Village itself) the border of Sutton Park. I suppose you could argue that the edge of Sutton Park forms the border of Sutton perhaps, but I'd argue that if you live on the road that goes around Sutton Park you live in Sutton.
  8. It is literally right next to the M42. I'm sure a bit of road redevelopment isn't impossible. And the Belfry never seemed to struggle with it.
  9. There was recent report on The Guardian I think, or maybe the BBC, and Birmingham ranked I think 41st of all councils in terms of debt per council tax payer. There are councils out there that have ten times the debt per head of Birmingham. It's just that Birmingham is by far the largest so it makes good headlines. The reasons seem to vary by council - some are historic issues, some are large projects that went wrong, but most seem to involve risky investments that went badly wrong (triggered by government underfunding leading to immensely bad decisions)
  10. What about bodymoor heath? Plenty of land round there, next to the Belfry, the M42 etc. obviously no trains though which is a big problem.
  11. Amazing story of the guy that invented the blue LED. Very inspiring.
  12. I was surprised at how positive Danny Murphy was about Villa on MOTD. He is usually extremely negative and dismissive but he actually came close to complimenting us.
  13. I've watched it a lot of times now and I see Ollie and the defender going shoulder to shoulder, Ollie nicks the ball away and then the defender trips Ollie up. I can't see your interpretation at all I'm afraid.
  14. Looked to me like Ollie's leg was kicked rather than it just being a shoulder to shoulder.
  15. Must have spent a fortune with the t-shirt printing company this season.
  16. Great result! Interesting that the fulham fans were booing the ref and chanting against him at the end. Did he make a lot of poor decisions in both directions?
  17. The ultimate expression of hyper-capitalism. A sports team's success is not measured in trophies won or sporting excellence, but instead on earnings and finance.
  18. Love this series of interviews from about ten years back, all now being released in full unedited form: Phil always comes across as so humble and self-deprecating and down-to-earth. Tony is always highly strung and obviously the boss but I still think he's a genuine and often very funny guy. Steve always seems a bit odd and intense, Peter is hilarious and nuts and hyper-intelligent, and Mike mumbles most of the time. Plus there are second parts of each. And others coming out too, like Anthony Phillips interview.
  19. Castore didn't fulfill their end of the contract and provide a fit-for-purpose product so absolutely we shouldn't have had to pay them. Unless the contract was very poorly written at our end. Contracts work in both directions. Or at least they should. Otherwise what's to stop them providing a load of tat they bought on offer from TK Maxx?
  20. Ahem, Royal Town actually. Please get your historic town titles correct, otherwise people might think it's just some rubbishy Victorian prefix like that there Leamington Spa likes to flaunt.
  21. I've been thinking about it this way. If we play Luiz or McGinn in Kamara's position we not only weaken the defensive areas we also blunt our attack. If we play Tim in Kamara's position, we weaken that position (assuming he doesn't get off to an absolute flyer) but we don't weaken our attacking midfield. Seems to me a no-brainer. I just don't think McGinn or Luiz are any good at all at the deeper role. And this is why I should be a football manager.
