  1. I suggest avoiding the BBC live text today... It is literally just Gerrard Gerrard Gerrard Gerrard. Aaaargh
  2. But they just thought it was full time when it was a free kick - they were dumb yeah but I can see why they went on early. Besides which, I thought the stewards handled it just fine. Any attempt to properly force fans back could have actually resulted in things kicking off. What else could they have done?
  3. Wow - that video is quite amazing. And there was me thinking it was a relatively poor game by his standards watching from Trinity Road! He made Song look quite foolish didn't he?
  4. "Bayern fans know the score. Quite literally." Excellent, insightful commentary there.
  5. Bah! If he made a defender fall over backwards, he is worthy of the title 'best footballer in the world' then :-)
  6. Messi is a worthy candidate for best footballist in the world, but I ask you this: Has he ever made a defender fall over backwards? I bet he hasn't.
  7. Jesus Christ BBC - livetext telling me it is 1-0 to Hull for several entries, now saying it is 2-0 to Hull! Dreadful.
  8. Cracking game. Loved seeing the new-found confidence in the side, like how Grealish controlled a wayward kick from Given, then turned and set up the attack that led to the first goal. So many times his control of the ball in midfield turned defence into attack. Our midfield completely dominated the majority of the game. Brilliant stuff.
  9. Schneiderlin out for the rest of the season and Southampton have Sunderland, Leicester and Villa still to play. A weakened Southampton could have an impact on the run-in.
  10. As everyone else says, it was an amazing day. Atmosphere was just incresible, like nothing I can remember - and the Liverpool fans might as well not have been there. Surprised how many people were singing along to Aston Villa That's Who, which surprised me by actually not sounding as naff as I expected it to! Shoutout to the guys a few rows behind who were singing 'Jack Grealish, he grows his own veg' :-) Wonderful day. Shame the final probably won't recapture that atmosphere if it has reduced ticket allocation, but should still be amazing.
  11. That hyped-up youngster that Sherwood is claiming to have brought through is going to cause havoc in defence isn't he? Probably going to score some sort of wonder goal too. Therefore my prediction is: Spurs 0 - Villa 1 (Grealish)
  12. Awwww.... how disappointing. Up to us now to spare the nation from a Gerrard Final.
  13. You know what I reckon? I reckon Liverpool can't play their usual slick passing game because of the pitch. I bet I am the first person in the world to suggest this.
  14. So annoying - that excellent dink from Delph for Rooney's miss is described as a 'hopeful lob' by Danny Mills. If it had been a Liverpool player that had done that...
  15. "Good interview... better than Jack" lol
  16. @mjmooney: Can I ask why you say this? If it is because you think Buffy isn't somehow intellectual enough, or if you think it is a shallow fluffy teen show then you are very mistaken. The scriptwriting, the complex story arcs, the uncompromising subject matter dealt with, the use of directorial techniques previously found only in the cinema... the show was absolutely revolutionary. It was one of the few shows that really respected the intelligence of its audience. An episode like 'The Body' is as raw and emotional and powerful a piece of television you will ever see. I could talk for a long time about the merits of Buffy and Angel, and anybody who hasn't watched them because of the fact that they are superficially 'teen' shows is really missing out on some amazing television (and also some of the greatest comedy moments going). And as for Babylon 5 - well, it is a five-season long tightly plotted story of the politics, greed and corruption of war played out on the grandest scale. Just because it has spaceships doesn't mean it isn't a work of near-genius. This is not your Battlestar Galactica nonsense - this is heavyweight stuff. It was also a pioneer of CGI and realistic physics simulations. It also had some dodgy acting, budget constraints and the usual meddling from the networks that slightly took the sheen off what could have been something really impressive indeed. Both shows are entirely worthy of consideration in this thread. As, of course, are documentaries like The Ascent Of Man, comedies like The Simpsons and Yes Minister, and drama like Edge Of Darkness.
  17. Burnley result is probably worse for Sunderland than us I would argue. The pressure is really on them now.
  18. I am amazed. Never expected Tim to have an effect like this. Consider me impressed.
  19. RIP Terry. Very sad news. One of the great character writers - his creations really felt like they were real people. A rare gift.
  20. Buffy. There was TV before Buffy, then TV after it. Changed everything about the way episodic television worked. Plus it was so unbelievably brilliantly well written. Would also give a nod to Babylon 5 for its sheer ambition.
  21. He was challenging for the ball near the touchline in front of the Trinity Road Stand having run after his man from the middle of the pitch. I couldn't see anything he did that was a foul but my g/f reckoned he might have pulled a shirt. Looked very harsh from where I was sitting though. And no idea why the ref thought the second yellow was simulation. Good pass from him to set up the goal though.
  22. I have to say, Tim's comments are really building up the anticipation for the Baggies match tomorrow. The atmosphere is going to be electric, and a lot of that will be down to Sherwood's comments. Fans of both sides are going to be really worked up for this and a lot of that is down to our new manager. I think this can only be a good thing.
