Gregg Evans at The Mail has said he thinks the mystery signing might be Taylor from Swansea and Bruce just doesn't know we've been linked with him. I hope that doesn't turn out to be true as whilst I think Taylor will be a decent signing, if he's the 'mystery man' after all of this then they've just pissed all over my chips

To be honest I think they need to give him a contract for at least next season, regardless of how much he does or doesn't play, he'd be an excellent influence in the dressing room; something that we have been sorely lacking during this diabolical campaign.

I'd be amazed if we didn't sign at least one more player, probably on deadline day. I think we're still in for a striker and if Adebayor goes to West Ham I'm sure the scouts must have a back up to consider

The betting has come right in on us to sign Austin. It could be misguided or wishful fans bringing the betting in but considering he was supposedly a dead very for Newcastle it's interesting we've risen so quickly in the odds. Also I'm amazed Ashley is shelling out the fee for Mitrovic, if he buys him and Austin it'll be completely out of character

I don't think he'll change any of the numbers when players are still here so my guess is the new players will all take departed players numbers. At a guess I think Gueye will get 8, Richards 4, Bunn 31 & if Amavi signs he'll have 19 as its his current squad number. I think out of current players only Grealish will get a new number as I think Tim will give him the 10 shirt now it's free. I agree with what others have said though, Sinclair having 9 and Baker having 2 doesn't sit right with me and I hope the numbers get shifted around, but I don't think they will

To be honest the talk of how much he'd cost etc doesn't really bother me, it's up to Sherwood to justify to the board that's he's worth the potential fee and wages. Irrespective of that the question becomes that if we signed him would he be better than what we already have in his position? In my mind he's a vast improvement. Sure he's not the perfect player but frankly if he were he wouldn't be linked with the worst placed team to stay up last season.

It depends how you read into it. I'd say that if we've been authorised to sign a player, especially on the sort of wages being reported, whilst in an exclusivity period it could mean the sale is progressing quickly and the incoming owners have already given the go ahead for this deal.

Does anyone think it's strange that after the club said only days ago that Vlaar had been offered a new deal, with him subsequently saying he thinks he can go a step above us, that he's now injured and has been listed on the Premier Leagues website as officially released? It looks like he may of gone from being offered a deal and thinking he is too good for us to having no club and being injured which may put potential suitors off in the space of a couple of days. I for one think it's quite iRonic...
