  1. Discussion of elf skin colour used in a show based on a classic fantasy novel is a fair one. Ron Wesley is ginger. It would be stupid if films made him have dark hair. What isn't fair is saying "this show will be shit because there are black elves". I am strongly against this rhetoric. It would also appear to me that "race" is an important issue of Tolkien's work, especially considering different clans of people and how they relate to each other - this is particularly seen with different kinds of elves. I am 100% looking forward to this. Amazon, please do not disappoint!
  2. My Polish family is a bit split - everyone is backing refugee help, but other than that you have two camps. 1. The hard realists who believe Russia will not attack NATO; 2. The emotional 'motherly' feeling of fear, often equating Russia to the USSR. They are concerned the Putin is a madman and if he wants to he will simply attack anyone. I think the latter group is smaller and more emotion driven.
  3. I hope you are correct - I'm a bit more sceptical about the Russian military 'failure'. From the start I assumed Putin must have some concrete aims and that wasn't necessarily to take over the entire country. This scattered bombardment tactic and sitting back on Kiev might suggest that. In poker terms, I assumed Putin went all in in order to collect a relatively small pot (Donbas Region, Crimea, change of Ukraine Constitution to stop them joining NATO). But on the personal level I prefer your way thinking - I hope Putin is shitting himself and will slowly back down seeing what mess he made.
  4. But isn't he the sort of player to achieve and cement a European place?
  5. There are better ways - but if a sponsor gave us £5m (for example) to put some branding up, I would not be against it. It all adds up, little by little. And even if they called it Adidas Pepsi Max Netflix Stadium, it would still be Villa Park. The only difference is we would likely see better players running around in it.
  6. It's funny how we are in a position where a loss or two brings the relegation thread up, and a win or two brings the European chase hopes up. Neither will likely happen.
  7. Having watched Kędziora on multiple occasions, I would suggest we should (for any reason, but not a footballing one because he isn't a premier league player).
  8. They also had a lot of penalty calls against them - there was a kung fu kick against them during Brighton (don't remember who was involved?) and the famous Ederson incident just before Xmas. I wouldn't say they were that lucky. I guess as the money is pumped in, and as they go up the table, they will likely get more lucky more often.
  9. Question is, when will Russia be not seen as a pariah? Putin probably doesn't plan to go anywhere soon. But that's a side thought, what would have to happen for Russia to be accepted back into footballing establishment by other nations? (Not by FIFA of course, they'd have them playing tomorrow if they could)
  10. That's the problem. Alright is ok for a Crystal Palace/Watford defender. It just isn't good enough for one of the richest clubs in the world, with European aspirations, who decide to make that man a captain.
  11. There is a man called Gareth who will strongly disagree.
  12. No, it's not that - it was a response to the previous post on on BBC breakfast skipping past the topic. I got in the car, chased latest news, and with full seriousness, shock, distress, the presenter broke the most disturbing news - I was thinking they might mention something that happened in Ukraine, I was a bit thrown back. You are correct, the armed robbery should be mentioned. I guess it just put things into perspective when you consider what's happening around the world.
  13. I enjoyed the morning show at BBC WM. 'And now, bringing you the latest breaking, and most disturbing news, it's sad to hear really. A jeweller in Birmingham has been broken into'.
  14. I think exactly the opposite - the fact they are doing a big cover up suggests they are being smart as to not turn the public against them. This is a political conflict as much as a military one, and Putin needs to keep appearances up within his nation. He very well knows what he's doing, even if he fails in his aims miserably. (Which I hope he does, quickly.) If his story is liberation of Ukraine from Nazi occupiers, why would he expose his people to a different picture?
  15. Of course it's a theory and some are dismissing it. I'd bet to think it could have been the case. But, it wasn't written down, it wasn't formal, and it was made between leaders 30 years ago. Times change, geopolitics change, and people in power change. So while it could have been the case that assurances are made, this argument cannot be used in a reasonable discussion of what was or wasn't the deal - all parties signed trieties, and no treaty said that Poland/Estonia/Latvia/Ukraine wouldn't join NATO.

    Chelsea

I always thought they are a much more 'boutique' club compared to Man City or United. Yes, they are limited in capacity, but even if VP was to expand to 60k they would still bring in more funds via commercial/hospitality means. I am sure the world's most powerful people visit Chelsea more frequently compared to Liverpool, and the London location plays a part in this. They have a good business model - having 753 players on loan doesn't feel right to you or me, but it makes commercial sense. Much like Man United, they have flown too high to now fall down drastically.
  17. Well, 2023 suggested next year. I guess spring/summer 2023. If the are talking about it, we must have some solid developments behind the scenes already.
  18. I hope my theory is wrong, but it's entirely possible Russia wanted to go in, make a mess, start a war, end enter yesterday's negotiations with "you have not seen anything just yet".
  19. Do you think Var is a computer generated decision? It's just a video replay. It's still stupid refs making wrong calls.
  20. I wonder if FIFA will still entertain "respect" badges everywhere. No backbone, no respect. It's a joke.
  21. And, I don't think Bielsa was a likable manager in a way that Hassenhutl or Dean Smith are. He was spying on teams, going for gung ho tactics for no clear reason, selected FIFA best for no clear reason, made a big deal out of giving Villa a "free goal" in that infamous game. And he sat on a bucket. As an outside fan, I can appreciate it was entertaining, but not an example to follow. Just like Klopp stopped being likeable sometime in his 2nd season at plop, I don't think Bielsa was likeble to an outside fan.
  22. Maybe the lawyers are busy counting the Qatar money.
