Stays with us as long as we match his ambitions, but I can understand people being anxious about him leaving - after Jack he was the one player who could arguably start for most CL teams. If he stays long term I reckon he'll end up regarded as an absolute and undisputed Villa legend

Plenty of evidence that we are going backwards with respect to some of these points. Inequality has skyrocketed since the 1980s and the gap between rich and poor is roughly analogous to the Victorian era, while life expectancy has stopped growing for the first time a century and actually declined for the poorest women between 2010 and 2020. I broadly agree with your point, but think you can make a reasonable argument that living conditions have already peaked for people in western countries in some respects

Really pleased for the lad, what a fantastic experience for him. Bet when he first moved here he'd never have imagined playing in a world cup. Lots of respect for how he's thrown himself into it as well and is making a real effort with the language. Just comes across like a lovely lad and I think he still has room to improve for us too

The best player since 2010 (but not Ronaldo or Messi!)

I think that Ashley Westwood fella has been remarkably consistent... One of Modric, Iniesta and Ibra for me -
I still don't

Basically the opposite for me, I am excited for it, as I love the world Cup, but am actively avoiding paying it any attention. I would normally watch every game and would bet money on it etc. But am incredibly determined to avoid this tournament. Enjoying top level professional football involves a necessary suspension of our usual sense of morals and justice, but this is just too far for me. I want no part of it, and if a significant minority of people think like me and viewing figures/revenue generated are down overall as a result, then that is basically all I can do to register my disgust at the whole thing. Friends and people at work who only ever take in a football match during international tournaments have asked if I've been enjoying it and are generally really surprised that I'm boycotting it

Would be a shame to see him go, he is clearly a talented player who is not yet at his peak. At the same time, he's never really fully shown what he could do here. If somewhere we're to offer a silly price, he's also never shown anything to suggest he's irreplaceable. Get the sense with Bailey that he has to be personally invested for you to get the best from him, and suspect if there was serious interest from the top 6 that his head would be turned and we'd probably be best off cashing in

You might be right - my gut feeling is his ego won't let him take a job below PL. Can't see him rocking up at Luton Town to keep the Liverpool dream alive. Feels as though the PL has moved beyond the Hughes/Bruce rotation now, with those managers more likely to find work in the Championship

Please tell me when to stop laughing at SHA

Blue nose mates of mine seem to think that Jobe could be off in Jan. Reckon he's not ready for the first team just yet, but is getting minutes so they can shift him as a first team regular and get more money -
Nah, think he'd fallen out with the board and was annoyed they wouldn't back him the summer after winning the league (despite signing 40+ players in his three seasons up there). Word was that he wanted to be closer to his family too. Assume this is a big reason why Villa appealed to him really, its not much of a journey from north Brum/south Staffs up to Cheshire. Honestly think there's at least a 50/50 chance that he's done with management now tbh

Not a fan of option one at all, would honestly rather keep the current badge than change to that. That round one though, oh hello Away to cast my vote then

Not only had I forgotten this bloke had played for us, I'd completely forgotten about his entire existence. Tbh even after a bit of Googling I wouldn't be surprised if there's some VT in-joke going on here that I'm not clued into

Saw this the other day and thought it was interesting. UFO sightings are largely an American/British phenomenon. Could it be that many UFO sightings are simply civilians catching sight of secret military tests? FWIW I do believe in extraterrestrial life

Make that two of us. Lovely gesture and has topped off a great day with regards the Villa for me

Ratings & Reactions: Villa v Brentford
icouldtelltheworld replied to limpid's topic in PL: Brentford h
It's been so obvious over the past year that the problems were largely due to the bizarre tactics that Gerrard tried to have us play. Today we play with width, drop the out of form favourites and pick square pegs to go in square holes. Now let's get the manager appointment right and try to kick on, there's still time to salvage a decent season -

Pathetic. **** off Gerrard, absolute fraud. By an absolute mile the worst manager in our history. We are very much in a relegation battle and whoever comes in has a huge job on his hands. Players look devoid of confidence and the good team spirit we had under Smith is simply unimaginable now. Massively lost interest in it this season, we've been horrific from top to bottom
-
Utterly ridiculous to get a red card for that. Hard done by
-
Given the resources and squad at his disposal, he surely has to go down as our worst ever manager. Absolutely thrown away years of progress and the hard work building up good will with the fans. Surely gone tomorrow if we fall into the relegation zone. Disgraceful.

This is exactly how I feel about Wolves games now
-
In fairness I know dozens of people who go the game, and not one of them has faith in Gerrard

I'm on the waiting list for a season ticket, and while my attendance died down a bit before relegation, every season since our first in the Championship I've gone to a decent number of home games (think I did around 10 last season + similar in the first season back up, cup games as well). I've been down once this season and that was because my mate had a spare for me. Haven't even bothered renewing my membership because I'm not in a rush to get tickets for any game. The tactics are ridiculous and the football is dire. I'm not paying £35 quid minimum to endure this and suspect there are loads of others like me who feel the same. Really hope the hierarchy act soon because so much of the good will and bond with the fans is being pissed away under Gerrard
-
Might start a petition asking for us to never have another Steve as manager. Football is easily worse under Gerrard, theres a bit of revisionism around the Bruce era for me. We weren't great to watch, but the road to the play offs in 17/18 was somewhat exciting. We are turgid under Gerrard and its the first time I've ever really lost interest in watching us, other than maybe late-stage Lambert

If Traore is being castigated for a lack of end product then I really do wonder what people are seeing in Bailey. I think he has the potential to be a good player, but he hasn't given us a fraction of what Traore did in his first season, and tbh given the choice between the two of them ATM I don't think I'd opt for Bailey Bailey would of course be helped if we had a manager who believed in actually using wingers to provide width
