  1. Has he not been basically scoring at a 1 in 2 rate whatever level/side he's been playing at for going on 2 years now? Deserves a chance with our first team and probably has more to gain from us potentially sneaking into Europe this year than anyone else at the club
  2. Anyone's choice of which media to consume is a matter of personal taste, ultimately. For the match going fan, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that they look for all of the above but prefer that to be delivered by someone who was physically at the game, so they can also discuss the atmosphere, away fans, match day experience, transport issues, half-time queue for a balti pie etc., as ultimately that is going to be more relatable. I just think it's a bit of a jump to suggest anyone with that opinion is being xenophobic. FWIW I think 95% of fan vlogs/podcasts are cringe-inducing shite, this one included
  3. He personally finds it difficult to take to the podcast. It doesn't then follow that he believes all non-UK based Villa fans should sit down, be quiet and avoid having any opinion on the club or football in general - if he did, he'd be really unlikely to be posting on VT. A matter of personal taste doesn't equate xenophobia. As I said in my initial post, I can understand the frustration with the point being expressed, but I also don't think the opinion expressed by the initial poster is an unreasonable or hateful one either. I can see both sides basically.
  4. Do we envision that the redevelopment would move quicker than Bailey as well?
  5. I'm really not sure that is how the original poster intended his comments to come across at all
  6. Missing the point just a bit - yes of course we have and yes we will, but that doesn't mean anyone has to like the globalisation of football overall, and has little to do with people choosing not to listen to a podcast by a guy who has just attended his first game
  7. I understand your frustration, but I don't think it's necessarily gatekeeping or comes from a place of nastiness. Football podcasts rely on the listeners accepting the presenters as experts worth listening to - that will always be hard for those of us who attend regularly when considering someone who has just attended their first game. Football is a global sport, but the globalisation of English football is not universally seen as a good thing, and that's a fully legitimate position IMO
  8. You'd hope they've deployed some decent evidence retrievers this time around
  9. Looking at the Leicester forum, they seem to be much warmer to his appointment than Norwich fans were. Probably helps him that he's replacing a manager who had become very unpopular and who most had wanted sacked for a long time. Wish him all the best and think he could be onto a good thing here in terms of repairing his reputation at the top level
  10. These will surely be familiar to any 90s kid. Seemed to be pretty ubiquitous at football and in PE etc when I was a yoof
  11. Won't be to the tastes of most VTers, but this was released just before the 2011 riots and feels fairly prophetic in hindsight
  12. Interesting, could be a generational thing I guess
  13. Sutton town centre is dying, but it's nothing akin to what has happened to Erdington high street over the past 15 or so years
  14. Think you've hit the nail on the head tbh. When I was doing my PGCE, a lass from the west country commented how weird it was that us Brummies would pronounce 'mentor' as if it was spelt 'menta', whereas she would emphasise the R at the end of the word
  15. Started a long time before that if were being honest. Trump is more symptom than cause IMO
  16. I for one would find myself romantically nourished if we were to qualify for Europe
  17. I've never liked The Smiths, have read Crime and Punishment, not read War and Peace. Never pretended to like The Smiths or to have read War and Peace
  18. The Smiths are one of those bands that I'm convinced a good chunk of people who follow them are just pretending to like them for clout. A bit like when people claim to have read books like War and Peace or Crime and Punishment. Never particularly got into the Stone Roses either tbh
  19. Friend of mine (who happens to be a nose) knows his dad through boxing and said to me ages ago that JJ and his brothers have been brought up properly. If he can keep developing and maintains a first team place with us then I can see him captaining the team at some point
  20. St Johnstone won more trophies than Rangers during Gerrard's time in Scotland
