I thought like this but today has changed my mind a little. We played well, very well at times, but were let down by individuals making mistakes or playing poorly. I’d like to see what Gerrard and co can do with players more suited to their vision.
Whilst he certainly hasn’t been great he hasn’t been any worse than Targett. I’m not really understanding the criticism Digne is getting, particularly as a new member of a misfiring team.
Have we already forgotten about Targett looking like a lost lamb as he was rinsed over and over at United?
He is better suited to a high tempo, direct attacking style. He, like others, doesn’t suit our style of play at the moment but is still a constant in the starting 11. Bizarre.
Let’s not forget they’re going for Champs League with the likes of Conte, Son and Kane. Despite our flaws we had 19 shots to their 11 and 52% possession over the 90.
A freak result after a few poor defensive mistakes were capitalised on by a world class finisher. This is far from our worst performance, I just hope we don’t let our heads drop as the score line does not reflect the game of football I just watched.
One thing we can all agree on is that players need rotating and the coaching team need to take a long hard look at themselves.
Not sure if I want to renew this year if I'm honest. Travelling to and from the ground is **** effort. 30 min walk from the car in the blistering cold.
The way Gerrard sets us up doesn't help. McGinn losing the ball on the half way line with only the back 4 behind him is only gonna end up one way against a side like Wolves.
