  1. Way back in the day I was a hanger on around some SWP / Militant types. Back when John Smith was trying to be our MP (not that one, the lesser one), back in the late 80's. It was fascinating to see the games, the plots, the blatant contradictory promises to various people and groups, the gossip and rumour. That was just the internal Labour stuff, nevermind briefing against the sitting tory scum MP. He was horrible, but the stories told about him were outrageous. More recently I've witnessed the opposite of 'militant' active within Labour, the promotion of filled suits, content to read from a script and tweet what they are told to tweet. It would take a sea change for me to vote Labour. I really need 'none of the above' added to the ballot.
  2. Yep, I was in an office today and a conversation was struck up and all anybody 'knew' was that yesterday Corbyn had been caught lying about something about trains and today 'they' got him by asking him loads of questions he didn't like that got him riled up. Welcome to the post factual infotainment news society, where the news is 30 seconds long, has to include a celebrity article and has a musak beat playing behind it.
  3. I know places that test at work, but only on Wednesdays and Thursdays! A very strange regime. You must not do drugs, but in case you are, we'll give you until Wednesday to rinse, we also realise some weekends start on Thursday evening, so we won't test on Friday's.
  4. cone line, don't forget cone line But other than lottery funded medals, the anglo Irish agreement, cone line, peas, sanitation and roads, what did he ever do for us?
  5. I tore a leg muscle a couple of months ago. I managed to make such a good job of it that I ended up with really bad muscle pain down my leg and in my groin when I woke up one day with a decent showing of morning glory. I didn't know whether to laugh, cry, or slap some deep freeze gel on it. My wife absolutely refused to help.
  6. The 'slow black car prowling/rolling in rain at night' scene in my film in my head is probably the one that has had the musical accompaniment changed the most. Running through a football crowd: Curtis Mayfield Move On Up Dragging bloody body across immaculate white kitchen floor: Nina Simone, Ain't Got No, I Got Life Existential crisis courtesy of Apocalypse Now proportions: Funkadelic, Maggot Brain The drop: Horace Andy, Money Money Opening Credits / opening scene radio and ash tray panning out to cafe breakfast: Tommy McCook, Green Mango Closing Credits: Golden Fable, Motorcycle Emptiness yeah, nearly there, filming due to start...soon
  7. @mjmooney I think that's probably my next purchase, overall it's supposed to be a bit patchy, I've only listened to one or two tracks (roundabout & funny thing she said) but really liked it.
  8. I've actually begun to feel a bit sorry for Inverdale, a character utterly out of his time and his comfort zone. Partridge is a bang on comparison. Next up: another **** Eddie **** Butler **** monologue.
  9. Chris McLaughlinVerified account‏@BBCchrismclaug UK Sport and BOA say they will hold talks with FA in a bid to try and get a GB football team at Tokyo 2020. which of course, is exactly why it should never be allowed to happen

    Drugs

Thursday evening I had my last coffee. So no coffee, cola, fizzy drinks of any kind or chocolate for coming up to 60 hours. Slightly buzzy head this time yesterday, but other than that, nothing. Slightly buzzy head, in context, I do not get any grade of headache from one year to the next. It was an experiment to see if I was getting reliant on fizz or caffeine. I'd say it's gone ok. Probably go back on the coffee tomorrow.
  11. darts is often dismissed, but darts with high tech throwing kit made from kevlar is often seen as legit darts is archery without the extra equipment
  12. Sorry, I didn't get a word of that? (it was just my idea of a dumb joke to wind you up, the guy was clearly a pleb)
  13. to be fair, if the guy didn't have a validation word it's more to do with the foreign i.t. call centre not understanding
  14. A level results day, but my nipper has had a text nice n early this morning to say 'congrats, relax, you got your first choice, no need to contact us today'. Formality of knowing grades still to come, but the mood has definitely lifted!
  15. good to see a return to the imperial measure of bangability #wegotourcountryback
  16. I stayed up and watched the whole race. The start was delayed due to the minor placing race being late starting. There was a false start. Then there was another false start. News at Ten ended up starting just after 11:30pm. She had loads of time to rustle up some grub but just sat on her arse.
  17. Lescott to Rangers has probably swung the title race massively their way. The only hope Celtic have of keeping the race alive is by attracting an attack minded live wire striker on an exercise bike to the club.
  18. of all the Olympics to be passing tickets to touts, he's chosen the one with thousands of empty seats at every venue of all the things an old bloke in a blazer could be arrested for in Rio, he's managed the most mundane thing possible, utter lack of imagination he needs to get back out there and get filmed snorting special K off the arse of a trans gender dancing horse, in a little boat, in an empty dive pool
  19. I once made Joao Havelange a mug of proper builders' tea (not in the last 24 hours I hasten to add). Same for Sepp Blatter too, but he's not quite so topical today.
  20. fwiw, for a first car just about anything is fine really, once you've driven that for a little while you'll have a better idea what you do and don't like about it a 1400cc car is more than enough for city driving, might even be worth comparing the insurance against something a little smaller, we've just bought a 1 litre thing for town and it's absolutely fine, just as good off the lights as anything else, it's good fun £1500 for something you might ding a few times sounds really sensible. But again, might be worth checking insurance on something new, weirdly, it could be cheaper. Sometimes things like a new citroen C1 can be weirdly cheap and will have a year's free insurance.
  21. congratulations luv, there aren't many women on VT so it's good to see one doing well
