  1. Heck is here for branding and marketing. Not to appease the vocal part of the fanbase. He literally gets paid to do this job whether you like it or not and has a proven track record of doing a good job of it. He has my trust until we sell 0 shirts and the marketing bombs.
  2. Personally I think that is wishful thinking. Could do a OK job there for sure though.
  3. You keep strawman arguing with this "unicorn player" phrase. No one is suggesting that. What they are saying is that without Watkins things get difficult. Duran doesn't press or adhere to the shape as consistently as he should. Diaby hasn't played there in a long time. Don't even think Zaniolo or Bailey have really ever played as the main striker and if so not for long. Bertie did for a period but do you really trust him to do it? No. It is clear that there is a certain part of Ollies game that is hard to replicate. Do I think Emery could do a decent job with the aforementioned players in making it work? Sure. But I would rather we weren't faced with that decision. However, in my opinion a backup to Ollie is only necessary if Duran leaves due to numbers alone. An older backup that fits the profile of technical ability to do Ollies job would be perfect.
  4. But thats a very different set of roles and responsibilities too (at Roma). Hoping he shows a little more.
  5. Except Liverpool signing Van Dijk? Or Fernandes to Man Utd? Not so stupid or desperate.
  6. He is just getting back up to form. Relax.
  7. It is by design. This is how we play. The high line is going nowhere. It is up to the opposition to try and break it which much more often than not ends up in us getting the ball back quite quickly as it is quite hard to do. This is what we want.
  8. Not sure where he fits to get the best out of him.
  9. Most irritating player to watch for me currently. Very talented athlete so I believe with the coaching he will improve. I wish he would replace the 'threatening up the wing and turn back pass to Konsa" routine he does with just standing on the ball. It rarely achieves its aim of pulling the opp out of shape.
  10. How is Jesus and Nketiah relevant to Duran or our situation? Duran is not being consistent or disciplined enough in his positioning and pressing. He is surely very talented but if he doesn't get these thigns right he will not be on the pitch for long periods.
  11. he makes a lot of tackles and interceptions that seem the go under the radar
  12. have said it in a number of other threads - with the injuries to key players and new players to bed in the baselines confidence in our structure has taken a hit we see that come out against the better teams when the intensity is ramped up. some players are playing with authority and belief that we are used to witnessing it will take some time
  13. the most enjoyable thing about having a manager as good as Emery is witnessing them solve problems and figure things out we are going through that right now as we did when we went through a difficult patch last season a lot of new players to bed in which along with injuries to key starters has meant that our baseline confidence in our structure has taken a hit - many players for has dropped to a lack of security in what the team as a whole is doing i look forward to seeing how Emery solves this puzzle
  14. our structural baseline has dipped from the strong end to last season due to injuries torres has played terribly at times however it isn't helped by the fact that in two of our biggest games thus far the whole team has shrunk and no one is playing with real confidence. not knowing wether to stick or twist leads to terrible play
  15. one more day of watching you bang your head against a wall it has always been a free for all thats why it is enjoyable
  16. he is struggling to find his rhythm on that inside left position. I watched him closely and he was getting quite frustrated that he couldn't find space and when he did he was often getting caught or turning into the space of our other players. we were immediately better there when McGinn came on - which is interested as he was equally as ineffectual vs Newcastle from there. Takes time has looked great when in a CM position with dougie/kamara needs time to adjust
  17. really impressed with our ability to move him (along with a lot of other players). hopefully it means someone is coming in
  18. well isn't this fun turns out we can have nice things
  19. To any of the podcasters who stumble across this post please stop repeatedly telling us what segments are happening and that "we will get to that later". just say it at the start and get rolling it is quite distracting to continually have them stop the conversation to caveat something pedantic yes I like all of them. FTLOPM may be my favourite at the moment. I would like a bit more in depth analysis on all of them - can often get stuck in "things were just great" circles.
  20. i see the old-man-yelling-at-cloud behaviour has returned and we are arguing about ITKs if you hate it as much as you claim then maybe avoid this thread of speculation for just a few more days the reality is you can't stay away
  21. i think its a joke as southgate often calls up and plays too many right backs
  22. i believe he has a dispute going with his last loan (watford?) with regard to his injury and treatment - was mentioned on one of the pods might mean he cant leave
