  1. You really think that is gonna happen ? Randy wouldn't cut back back on wages - transfer fees - to suddenley open the cheque book again. The 40k wage limit and no new money for players stories are much more beleivable. I think you would be able to get rid of given, dunne, warnock, ireland, gabby and get some money in. heskey, cuellar, guzan will go for free and petrov will retire. We could make a few bosman signings from Europe and maybe make a couple of signings for cash. I think the team needs an overhaul like this and it could be easily done. I am concerned about mcleish doing this task though as I don't trust him in the market. If the 40k limit is true and the no money thing then we are finished, I agree with that but what is said by business and what is actually done are miles apart. MON said he would find the best possible players for AVFC, did anyone actually beeleive him ? I didn't and look at the rubbish he bought, our training ground is the equivelent of Steptoe and Son Ltd at the moment. That's past though. If I was Lerner I would look at the kids we have and think 2-3 years down the line. Add som echeaper older players (of high quality) to bring them through and then spend big on proper long term players at that point. The kids value and experience will go up through basci playing time + they will have the confidence of not playing with the MOPN muppet sqaud. I am trying to think of a way out of this, we will still have the same manager so we need to pull our socks up and get back to supporting the Villa. Nobody is bigger than my club but devoting 800 + pages to him no matter what is said there is getting us nowhere. The one person you want to read it won't.
  2. Anyone ever seen "The first 48" ? Its from the US and follows up homicides, you go to the scene with the Police so a lot of times you see what they see at the crime scenen. The program then follows the cases (2 per episode) for the first 48 hours and in a lot of cases they get the people who did it within the alloted time for the program, pretty amazing program. Some of the most stupid people in the world can be seen on this program also, they kill each other in America for reasons that are just laughable. Fighting over a "corner" of an estate to deal gear or killing someone over a girl, Im thinking it must be a super model to kill someone over but no, a fat mess of a heroin addict for example. They will now do 30 years in prison for things like this.
  3. Relegation is not the answer IMO, it never is for any football problem as far as I know. If we get relegated they won't change the manager anyway so what would it achieve apart from giving everyone a chuckle. How many people hoping for releagation have actually lived through it, I have, not good. One of the most horrifiing things I have ever had to go through, easy to say ...harder to actually live it. My hope now is that Lerner will strip most of the MON purchases out in the summer and get in some quality to put around the kids. He is going to have to dig deep to turn it around but 5 or 6 quality players and things can turn around very quckly. Dunnno, trying to be a little bit positive. Yes I understand we all don't want the manager but we are stuck with him.
  4. I am going to have some of that also at 12's when I get home. We have no momentum now just a big bag of bad luck and excuses.
  5. I assumed it was because the boy David had read "Thatcher for beginners and dimwits", and thought that he should try to mimic some of the things credited with saving her scrawny neck. Such as picking a fight with Argentina, giving discounts on right to buy, privatising everything in sight, and trying to force an industrial dispute having stockpiled the main resource in question. Well it worked for her, surely all he has to do is copy the moves? You would think so but until he stops his 24 hour a day audition for some mini series on BBC2 where they need a hopeless g/\y, failed antique dealer with a severe brain injury he is not going to move forward at all. He is proper amusing though, like a cartoon politician.
  6. They were paid to do so ?
  7. Nice one. ^^ Lets all have a happy Friday ?
  8. Signed up to sponsor a guide dog yesterday. €7.50 a month until he is assigned to a blind person, makes me feel happy that does. Dunno, I don't give much to charity as I don't really trust them to use it well but at least I can follow how he is doing until he gets a job. My dad is regestieered blind and I love dogs so it seems a good fit. I get photos of the dog as he grows up but every time I see a guide dog I just think AMAZING.
  9. You are not wrong, my instructor used to do things like burn the back of my hand with a cigar if I drove with my hand on the gear stick. That's a habit I stopped before it started. As he was old bill as well I had some super training on duel carriageways so I was up to speed for the motorways etc.
  10. Over the last 18 months my overall interest in films is slowly ebbing away. I am now of the opinion that series are now better than one of films. We all have our favourites, Dexter, Breaking bad, Criminal minds and so on. Any random episode of of these piss all over most films these days. Would I give up watching Dexter for a free one year pass to a Cinema, would I F**k as much. No chance at all. I give it a chance and go to the cinema now and then but it's a poor relation to series now.
  11. Agree 100 %, absolute waste of time.
  12. My parents did this with me, real good start as you say. Bit of clutch control and reversing etc, saves a lot of money I would guess. I passed 1st time after 5 lessons (not with a driving instructor, it was a Policeman).
  13. Ridiculous statement. Not really, think of all the times we were in a cracking position, "If Villa win this they will be 4 points clear of 5th" and the like...... Oh dear bottled it again and again, when it was realised the house of straw was not sufficient he left. If people don't see it then I can't help that, that's not my problem but that's the good thing about history, it's kind of set in stone.
  14. Annoying but not quite as good as when people indicate after the change lane manoeuvre has been completed. So manoeuvre, mirror then signal.
  15. I feel for you. There's a woman who sits near me who says, 'Ooh, having a beer?', everytime she hears me open a can of pop. Like you, I try to be polite, but I could snap one day and end up over-arming the can at her head. The one I get at work is mainly from any other English people. I love Indian food, I am from Brum so this is to be expected. I eat the stuff I like so If I am going to have one or had one yesterday or someone mentions it in passing..... "What did you have ? A mild cream Korma ?" "Korma is too hot for you I reckon !!" "Korma, Korma cameleon" "I had a Madras, Neil of course ate lightly heated goats milk with sugar in" FFS, it's about eating what you like the taste of NOT how hot it is. I dunno, maybe it's because they are not from Brum or something so that should always be taken into account.
  16. It was the right plan IMO, just the wrong manager to do it. A half decent manager with the same resources would have increased the value of the players by actually winning things. The wages would not be a issue as the trading in players sold would have bought more money in. The failure to get into the CL was criminal given the resources made available and this killed us down the line. We might have been able to hold onto a few as well instead of feeding the top four.
  17. Have never seen him so I will take a look later, seems highly recommended. I like all sorts of comedy so I am sure he will fit in somewhere in my world of laughs (Izzard, Boyle, Gervais, Connolly are my usual taste in comedy). But for total genius Karl Pilkington, the others have to think about it
  18. He want be going anywhere, I think Lerner has him down as a long term Fergie type appointment. There can be no other reason as far as I know. I am sick of it all tbh but looking at the fixtures left I am clinging to the hope that we will just click at some point. We did play some nice stuff now and again in the last game and if I am honest any other Villa manager would have got away with "unlucky". We have the players who have been through a few tactical changes over the last few years so maybe like a troubled teenager we are about to come out of this in not too bad a shape come end May. I really am trying to lift myself more than anything but it's not as bad as some think. I have seen a lot worse football down the Villa I know that much.
  19. Problem is that where I work I lose the first days pay as a punishment for being ill. The days after day1 are paid though. Not sure if that's even legal but what can you do. I have had about 9 days off ill in 11 years but having days off is no good as the work piles up / adds stress.
  20. Erm... air DOES transfer heat rather well. (cough) vacuum flask (cough). I thought Vacuum meant no air in there ?
  21. If you watch an idiot abroad and say the exact things that Karl says in the show is that a bad thing ? (not me obviously, it's like someone I know has this mate who knows someone like well, you know what I mean) Note: For example, I have never packed a suitcase / bought socks etc.... (not me, my mate)
  22. Stick with it, a lot of people have bailed on this series I know after 3 or 4 but it gets better and more tense as it goes along.
  23. I see no reason for Keane to lie, he has no reason and nothing to gain from doing so. So I take the above from RK as basically true (ish) which leaves me wondering where the problem actually is ?
  24. Just claw it back from them, grab assets and sell them off. They do this to drug dealers, their customers choose to deal with them. Tax payers don't get the option to choose so this is actually worse and more criminal if you ask me.
  25. Bear in mind that his early sf books (Snow Crash, Zodiac, The Diamond Age, etc.) are quite different from his later "very slightly alternative history" works (Cryptonomicon and the Baroque Cycle) - although he returned to more trad sf with Anathem. Haven't read his new one (Reamde) yet, but it looks to be more in Cryptonomicon territory. Thanks for the info, really good read so far. Nice style to the writing and pretty unique as far as I know.
