  1. Carbone against Wimbledon. Luna against Arsenal. You never can tell how it will go longer term!
  2. And one or two base their assessments on having seen no games at all!
  3. That makes sense. I think a lot of football fans still think of transfer fees like house prices whereby selling for less than you paid is a disaster. Being a free agent at the end of the contract has changed all that.
  4. Gerrard just needed more time. Luckily other managers don't need any!
  5. Don't psychologists call it "displacement" or something? When I get angry at a match and take a step back, I know deep down it was nothing do with the football - usually!
  6. What spoiled it for me was the nonsense of pairing it with claret shorts in its first season (83-84).
  7. If you've watched it that many times, surely you noticed it was 12 games unbeaten!
  8. Yes actually. I'm not asking him to do a Reina at Leicester.
  9. The failure to close down the angle on one-on-ones (or even sometimes back pedalling) is one of many things that frustrate about this man.
  10. I thought our best performance was against Villarreal. There is a structure and a sense that we know how we are trying to score, even though sometimes the luck runs against us.
  11. That was a Chinese whisper. Literally. Thankfully Dr Xia is nowhere near our club and the current owners' aim is a more feasible 53,000.
  12. I still feel cheesed off not only that there was no video or audio coverage on our own website but that there was absolutely no acknowledgement of this by the club. Fans' legitimate expectations will surely have been that the club would provide coverage of a first team game taking place on our own ground!
  13. It's also why (leaving clothing out of it) the merchandise is generic, limited and boring. I remember going into the shop in the late 90s and it was like the football equivalent of Santa's grotto. The quality pictures you could buy, for example. Could you imagine them commission beautiful pieces like the huge print celebrating the 1994 League Cup (even if we actually won something). My petty gripe is the discontinuing of programme binders. Serious collectors would have had these since the 1960s onwards. And then nothing.
  14. It doesn't surprise me that Birmingham Live don't know the shape of a dome. That roof is definitely not a dome.
  15. Those three years of that lot laughing at us were awful: 0-3 (Enkelman), 0-2 (Dublin), 0-0, 2-2 (we'd been 2-0 up), 1-2 (Sorensen), 0-2 (Sorensen again). Since then, it's played 16, won 11, drawn 4 and lost 1 (we picked a bad one to lose - League Cup 1/4 final).
  16. That isn't actually our 70s/80s badge. Not your fault, it's a version too easily available. Look at S-Platt's profile pic and compare with the one quoted above. On the genuine one "Aston Villa" goes further round the circle and the lion is different. I am glad of a new round badge rather than trying to revive the old one because there seem to be too many inaccurate versions of it.
  17. Chelsea fans are hilarious. If our new badge is a copy of anything it's our own badge that we had for about 20 years prior to the foundation of the Premier League. The aspect I find irritating is the credence given to the Chelsea fans' views, eg the Daily Mail article today.
  18. It's a pity that the goalkeeper's performance and the final scoreline obscure somewhat what a terrific job Emery has done tonight.
  19. If that's what the club have done, then hurrah I say! They got an outcome which looks very Aston Villa. (In my opinion, the usual disclaimer.)
  20. If you read the game well, you don't even have to tackle!
  21. I'm starting to think it must be inverted snobbery too!
