    yup, I agree. I'm optimistic in the long term, but this game is a bit soon, still would take a draw happily to get us off the mark.

    feeling fairly good. Crucially the team has a freshness and a manager I can get behind. Looking forward to seeing all thee hungry lads go for it. I know it will be tougher short term than is preferably but I dont mind, I think there's a real sense of a long term project with these players - the appointment of the scout etc that gives me faith we'll be ok.

    good luck to him. hope he does well and can make a career of himself, as he's not going to here, now we've signed benteke and brewer. if he's surname started with a 'b' perhaps he'd have a chance...

    steady on diehardvillan I get the point there's some doubt over the fee? If it's £7mil that's obviously a bit better. But even so, Bent as our main man would have kept pressure off Benteke early on.

    10 mil for benteke will still always be far better value than carrol for 35mil. it may be over the odds but not on a majorly insane level

Anyway, odd surprise to wake up to, can't shake the feeling its a bit of a ruse for liverpool / us to sign benteke but there we go. the beeb don't usually report something unless their certain enough of it though. If 'd seen this on SSN i'd be more sceptical...

    i know, still, the clutching at straws approach: is the game around a champions league game or near a big league game? or if we're going to beat them, might as well do it at this stage of the competition before the winners mentality takes hold of them. We can definitely win. 8)

    As good a players as he might be/has been there are very few players i wan't less at Aston Villa then him. any reason why? I'd be content to ee him come in on loan to supplement the youth with some experience.

    I know our defence is young and inexperienced, but for me that makes it quite exciting. They're all brought in by the manager ( except baker / clark ) and it will be his own team developing together. I think the lack of experience will be shown up a couple of times this season, but in the long run we'll get the pay-off.

    fully agree with tat omariqy. I like this approach but we're still going to have downs whilst the players develop. Some patience will be needed, certainly this season I think.

    would prefer benteke. Good to see a back up suggestion mind you. Lambert would be a decent back up, too, but would definitely prefer our first choice.
