  1. Because it's not just one match that is the issue here!
  2. Was absolutely screaming when he had like 20 yards of real estate in front of him, slowed down play and then chose to cross the ball to a crowded area.
  3. If we can't even boss a League 1 side, it's not the players that is the issue.
  4. Hasn't been the same since his injury last year according to Watford fans. This would have been a risk-reward signing.
  5. As others have noted across threads, I'm starting to get ManUtd and Everton vibes with our transfers.
  6. Have to admit that I may have been wrong about him. He deserves credit for the no-nonsense way the club signs players and further developing our academy, but the Gerrard appointment is not looking good (though Purslow had a lot to do with the signing) and it's starting to become evident that we are recruiting individual players (Ings, Coutinho, possibly Sarr) and not considering tactics and balance of the team.
  7. Is his loan year long? Can he switch to a Championship club mid-season?
  8. On top of that, other mid-table and lower table PL sides are either going to buy the best players from relegated sides or the fringe players from the top 6 teams. They surely will not buy the worst players from another mid/lower table club.
  9. This has been discussed previously. We are in a bit of no man's land when it comes to transfer where to achieve our ambitions we have to pay top dollar to acquire proven talent and then really cannot sell our fringe players as the Championship and European transfer market has pretty much collapsed.
  10. This is something many of us have been screaming about - how slow our passing and build-up play are. You simply can't break a team down playing as slow as we do. It's basically science.
  11. 14 and 11 goals the last two seasons. Anymore and we'd be getting bids for him from Arsenal.
  12. "pushing on" for our squad is getting into Europe. We certainly have a squad that can finish top half. If we don't accomplish it, that's on our coaches.
  13. will be a Man City player next season
  14. Still feel we play the ball much too slowly - maybe today it's the heat. It's why generally we haven't troubled Bournemouth or Everton when they are in their low block.
  15. Couldn't the argument be made that we might already have the players but SG is not using them correctly? e.g. Sanson, Buendia, Coutinho more central, Luiz in the 8, McGinn higher up...
  16. More like 90% think he is not delivering and we need to be prepared for a managerial change if things don't get better quickly.
  17. Don't think professionals really care about childhood loyalties.
  18. Don't think they are proper mates. In the intro press conference it was mentioned that they only had some fleeting interactions at Liverpool.
  19. For those arguing it's just one game - it really isn't. SG's record is quite poor since he came here despite having a solid squad and the club investing in some top talents. The tactics, lineups and play have all been very questionable. Despite the results, our play during the preseason was also quite poor. Think fans have a right to be genuinely worried. As some have mentioned, even the Villa content creators (i.e. vloggers, podcasters) - who generally are much more level headed than the anonymous keyboard warriors that frequent message boards, chatrooms and Twitter were fuming after yesterday's game and quite concerned about the future.
  20. Other than the Leeds and Southampton games, did not think our play was good last season either.
  21. The lifespan of modern day managers at a club is no more than 2-3 years (Klopp and Pep the only ones over 4 years at their clubs). He got the Smith hire correct - took us to the PL and kept us there. SG created PR buzz and attracted top talent to the club. Unfortunately, the play on the field has not met expectations. Don't think Purslow gets the ax just because of that.
