    Getting way ahead of myself, but if we got in the Conference League surely we’d go in as one of the favourites given Emery’s record alone.

    I think Emery thrives off of being at clubs of our size. Exceeding expectations and building with less resources, albeit with large resources with us now. We are so used to false dawns, but I think if Emery can’t do something with us I don’t know who will. He’s clearly the most advanced manager we have ever had.

    Rest of the season. I can’t see anyone catching us if we have 7pt gap over the teams below us. Likewise I cannot see us catching Brentford if they open a 7pt gap on us.

    Zaha loves playing against us. This is not a “must win” fixture, but it will probably go a long way to deciding what we are this year. A win puts us in the European race, a draw probably nails us on for 11th, a loss means a race to ensure we are 11th for the rest of the season.

    8 points above the drop zone. The string of results required for us to be relegated now would mean one of the biggest collapses in footballing history. We probably need 6 points from 14 games realistically.

    I think everyone, including Emi, needs to take a breath. The club and him are and have been a really good fit for each other, and he’s single handedly won us many points in the previous couple of seasons. I think he’s one excellent game/one game winning save away from having the wider fan base fawning over him again, and likewise I think the club are a transfer window away from delivering him the team that can get him European football at a place that adores him. Personally, I think he’s an amazing goalkeeper and his shithousery in something I much prefer in our tent than someone else’s.

    Must be an element of truth here. Can imagine if we were to get the Vegas team, Coutinho may go there give us a positive book value and wipe off £150k from the wage bill. Vitoria might not be able to do that but there is some joined up thinking.

    46% is clever in that it avoids any issues should we meet in European conpetitions. Excellent for us, and I imagine it gives Vitoria more access to cash than they’ve ever had before. Would not be surprised if this was the start of a flurry of these announcements, including the Las Vegas and Indian teams.

    Judging from some of the Villa TV videos it looks like Duran is likely to play some part in this. I would take a scrappy 1-0 already, which should see us into the top half.

    I’m not sure what Purslow has done wrong other than the Gerrard appointment - agree that’s a big mark against him, but what owners have never made a dud appointment. The man is probably busier with business related to the expansion.
