I was too young but couldn't he have done a Rooney and just stuck around for a few years for the craic. My generation was Capello pretty much retiring Owen at around 28? Looking back it was the right decision because it would transpire he would never be the same player.. but at the time and as a player I bloody loved Michael Owen and it was unthinkable at a time he wouldn't absolutely blitz that record.

    I checked and Souness was manager. It looks as though even though he was manager of Wales, he was still aplayer at Blackburn, I don't recall this.

    Seeing an interview with Mark Hughes got me thinking, he has been in management since 1999 - nearly two decades and as far as I can see he has nothing really to show for it. I am not even sure if he has got to a cup final. I am not saying he is a bad manager, but really...what keeps him going and where is the motivation to keep doing the same thing.

    Some of them have only ever known success. They have had 25 years or reletive non stop success, it must be difficult to come to terms with the fact that no matter how much revenue they generate, who they buy and who manages them that they have peaked and will very likely never see success like that again. Still, **** them. The reaction only a few months into Moyes reign was pretty disgusting.

    How much money is enough? Was the then upcoming giant new TV deal not enough, was the free stadium not enough, were the supposed 60,0o00 season ticket sales not enough? They should get the book thrown at them, but as usual, good old West Ham will get away with it. I despise people like this, the Gordon gkko school of thought. They would sell their own Gran for a tenner. They have already proven they don't really care about the club, the fans, or football. It's all just a money making exercise. Utter scumbags.

    People who huff and puff rushing around, panicking,jumping from one thing to another, putting on a big show that they are really grafting and working hard but in reality are accomplishing the square root of **** all. I have little doubt that in their head they genuinely think they are putting in a great shift too.
