  1. If Archer stays with the first team then I expect Ings or Watkins to go. I can't see Gerrard not getting this fabled overhaul of the squad and bringing in one of his own strikers. I think we'll bring one in, sell one (+Keinan) and retain Archer as the third striker we know Gerrard would like to have in the squad
  2. Just posted this in the other thread too, I completely agree with you Ming's is the only leader in that dressing room apart from Emi Martinez and can't see him being made captain. If Gerrard takes it off him it's because he's unlikely to play all the time. If that's the case make him Club Captain and phase him out like we did with Stan, Gabby and Chester. No need to give it a big speech on what a captain means and why he might take it off Ty, he's one of the best examples of a captain in the league, by far our best leader. If he's going to get phased out, cool, I may not agree but I can understand why... But not sure any question on captain needed to receive a longer answer than 'Tyrone is our club captain for the foreseeable'

  4. Phillips will be tied to Rice. He'll either go to West Ham to replace Rice or go to the likes of United if they can't get Rice. Bissouma I think comes to us or Newcastle
  5. I agree with your points but Dele Alli was free, plus £10m after 20 appearances (which was never possible for him to hit this season). Whilst it hasn't worked, I can still see why that deal got done
  6. For sure, but the only thing that stopped us being Sunderland was two takeovers in relatively quick succession. Where as Lerner managed to shift us to Dr. Tony quickly enough and he (or whoever he was a front for) managed to invest enough to keep us competitive in the Championship...Ellis Short wasn't quite as 'lucky' and Sunderland dropped again immediately, their takeover going through too late. They're a pretty good view of what would've happened had Lerner not sold. (And more realistically, Bury or Derby show what would've happened had Dr. Tony not sold). We've gotten very lucky with the timing our takeovers have all happened..it'll be sad to see Everton become Sunderland, they'll need to get very lucky too.
  7. How longs it been since we had a player be linked to a big Champions League elite team and then commit his future to us anyway? (And, crucially, then stay with us.. I.e. not Delph) It's a nice change
  8. They've managed to get a coup player, go from relegation certainties to virtually safe and bed him in sensibly. Good business to me, he's starting to get more starts and he'll be very important for them going forwards
  9. He's good but don't think we need him. We have Ramsey who is younger and has as high a ceiling. Plus it would prove Carneys point that we're more likely to just buy than promote players through. Ramsey/Carney/Aaron Ramsey are all promising attacking midfielders and Gallagher would stunt their development. Not to mention Luiz, McGinn and Sanson are all 8s too. We just don't have a need there unless we sell one or two. Very good player though, would like him and he'd suit Gerrard brilliantly. Do think there'd be a touch of Gerrard-Lampard not being able to play together if we had both Ramsey and Gallagher in the same team too.
  10. I'd believe this if he was giving games to Iroegbunam, Chukweumeka or even bringing on Chrisene during one of Dignes injuries. If he's made his mind up on players he may as well play the youth if he's just treading water until the summer
  11. Fantastic news. I loved Cash last season but have to admit I wasn't sure how he was going to do in Gerrards system. He had a bad turn of form (as did everyone) and wasn't sure the marauding attacking fullback was for him. The recalibration the last month or so, with the fullbacks being more like fullbacks rather than Kamikaze Wingbacks has really worked in his favour. His crossing still leaves a bit to be desired and interested to see whether Gerrard goes back to Kamikaze Wingbacks next season. What does this mean for Kesler I wonder?
  12. This entire conversation is based off of the premise set out by the tweet that the club are considering getting rid of the Sporting Director role and instead hiring someone to help Gerrard negotiate the fees. But to put Gerrard more in control of more aspects of the club.
  13. I think he'll be given all of next season unless we look like getting relegated, which won't happen . If a change is needed it wont happen till the summer
  14. No I know; that's my point. Letting him throw the kitchen sink at it because he wants us in Europe by 2024 -with, from this hypothetical proposal, no oversight from anybody else, just a mate to help negotiate the fees - is a disaster waiting to happen. If he doesn't get Europe, we'll be sacking him anyway, if he does, there's an outside chance he gets the Liverpool job. But if he doesn't get Europe, he gets sacked and we have an entire set up based entirely around Project Stevie G.
  15. Disaster waiting to happen if Gerrard & Purslow make this happen. They can't be trusted. Purslows intervention got us Ings because he got desperate for a name. I'm sure Gerrard will sign good players but he's working to a clock of 2024. We can't let him throw the kitchen sink at winning the Liverpool job on 29+ on £200k wages in the hope it all clicks. If it doesn't, we'll have wasted everything. Carney won't be the last of the big academy talents to think we're prioritising winning now over development. I'm highly concerned. We need somebody who can play Gerrard and will work with him to keep him happy and back him but also be highly determined to grow the club sensibly and find a balance. That is not giving more power to the manager. Obviously he's passed away but I feel Houllier would've been ideal. Wenger would be class but not going to come here. I'm so so against this if it was to happen.
  16. I completely agree. Im not going to lie, whilst I may be apprehensive and may not entirely agree with this hypothetical strategy, if we're sat here on September 1st and we've signed Luis Suarez, Joe Gomez, Philippe Coutinho and splashed £60m on Kalvin Phillips I'll be buzzing for the season ahead.
  17. My biggest fear is he signs a load of ex Liverpool mates and gets sacked anyway as results don't improve enough, leaving the next guy with a dressing room that was only here for high wages and Steven Gerrard and we end up having to cut costs all over again. It feels unlikely, but that's my biggest fear.
  18. Dan Crowley, vanished in lower Dutch league teams for a bit, maybe a bit of Eredivisie, turned up at Blues for a season or two then moved to Cheltenham for a season and just moved back to Willem II in the Eredivisie in January. He was our last best 16 year old in the country
  19. Digne hasn't been as good as Targett was last season either. As on December 31st, one of our biggest needs is still competition at Fullback and, in particular Left back. It's just an annoying situation to be in as we spent £27m on the position and yet our need remains the same. Disclaimer: I appreciate Digne is a good signing and an upgrade on this season's Targett. I'm merely saying in a list of needs pre-January and post-January 'competition at Left back' remains the same and it's frustrating
  20. Starting to feel our window will be exciting but predictable. I'm not sure giving money to Gerrard is the right thing but happy to be proven wrong.. Think we'll end up with something like Hickey, Gomez, Phillips/Bissouma, Suarez and Coutinho. It'll be hard to say that's a bad window considering the names but I think we'll see some big outs that we'll live to regret and I'd be very worried with that ex Liverpool contingent if Gerrard didn't perform and moved on with what happens with their desire and attitudes then.
  21. Newcastle Don t sell ASM unless there's a good reason for it. Stay away.
