I was really impressed with both players that played Rb for the states in the World Cup. Yedilin got all the hype but I thought Fabian Johnson was better. He was just sprinting up and down the line flat out. He obviously paid the price in the end by getting injured. Sign him up Lambo.

The fans are the stupid ones? Get over your "better fan syndrome". I don't think there are many fans that think Lerner has been a poor owner and has left the club on the edge. But that doesn't excuse that as a manager Lambert has not been very good, he has failed to improve HIS players, he has failed to motivate his team, and his tactics on the whole have been terrible. Ok then none of the Villa fans are stupid and I was implying that I'm a better fan than everybody by stating that some Villa fans are short-sighted.... Did Lambert motivate his players when we put that run together at the end of 2012-2013 season to stay up? Did the injuries last year have a major effect on our form? Did he motivate Guzan by dropping Given after 2 games and instilling confidence in him by making him No.1? Has Westwood improved? Has Vlaar improved? Has Delph improved? Plenty of his other players haven't improved and imo this is down to the fact that they aren't capable of improving. This is because we had to shop in a market where the majority of our signings are gambles. You can blame the owner for that and stop expecting the manager to solve everything with one hand tied behind his back! So he managed to motivate the team for about 10 games over 2 seasons? So now your contradicting yourself by saying he has motivated the team, I guess your one of those short-sighted fans I referring to. If over two yrs I had seen a progression of the players, tactics and management I would be happy for lambert to continue as a plan for the future could be seen. However, I've seen the manager continuously make the same type of mistake over and over again and not learn from them. I have seen players digress under his tutelage. Therefore I see no long or short term plan under him. Fair enough but I fail to see how any manager would progress under the circumstances and I think it's an achievement in itself that Lambert has kept us in the Premiership these past 2 seasons. If he was allowed to spend the kind of money that teams like West Ham have and we were having seasons like the last 2 then I'd be calling for his head also but he has been keeping us up while offering wages approx 10k - 20k per week, I'd say some of the players were even being offered less than 10k per week. Almost seems like an impossible task imo.

Just watched Calvary. I enjoyed it. Brendan Gleeson always puts on a good performance. It was a good reflection of small town Ireland, especially the characters in it although on the Friday night when he was getting drunk there was only 5 of them in the pub which would obviously never happen in a pub in rural Ireland 8/10

I voted for 9-12. As it stands we have a decent enough squad when you consider Vlaar is still here and we have Benteke to come back. If we add a quality midfielder and a decent winger/second striker to the squad then we will be in a good position. I'd also like to see a decent left back added to the squad unless Richardson is gonna play there but he seems to be getting used in a more advanced role. 4-3-3 Guzan Hutton - Okore - Vlaar - Richardson(new LB) Westwood (new CM) - Delph N'zogbia Gabby(new winger) Benteke SUBS: Given, Senderos, Bacuna, El Ahmadi, Cole, Weimann, Kozak ______________________________________________________ 4-4-2 Guzan Hutton - Okore - Vlaar - Ricahardson(new LB) Westwood (new CM) - Delph N'zogbia Benteke - Gabby _________________________________________ 3-5-2 Guzan Okore - Vlaar - Senderos Hutton Richardson(new LB) (new CM) - Westwood - Delph Benteke - Gabby Add to that Bent, Grealish, Gardner, Clark, Baker and Robinson and we would have a decent squad. I wonder if Lambert would like to have Delph and Ron signed onto new contracts? It's a good thing Lerner can rely on the stupidity of alot of supporters and just keep throwing Lambert out to the wolves. I admire Lambert for the job he has done and have total respect for him for staying here as long as he has. It doesn't strike me as a financial decision either and he genuinely cares about the club and the players imo.

If we hadn't of had 3 terrible injuries to 3 important players last year we would of been fine and picked up plenty more points. We just had one set back after another last season and no doubt it had a major effect on our season. We need to bring in a midfielder who can keep the ball, someone like KSY. Then we will have 2 decent passers in midfield and should have more possession. I'd also like us to get a winger/second striker. Weimann would be better off coming on as an impact sub, Gabby also except away from home when we are trying to keep it tight at the back and hit teams on the counter. Lerner needs to offer Ron a decent contract and put up the funds for a couple of quality signings.

I for one will fully support the manager. Booing and turning on the team and staff serves no positive purpose for the club. Lerner is the main cause of whats been going on at the club for the past 4 seasons and any manager would struggle under the circumstances being placed on our manager. At the end of the day it's our club not Lerners, he will be gone eventually but we will be still here living and breathing Aston Villa and I want to be seeing us in the Premiership for many years. No doubt we need a couple of signings and if we get proper quality in the positions needed then we will be fine. Lerner open the cheque book and insure we have the squad to stay up or you will be taking a big hit on your 200m asking price. Although judging by the last few seasons it appears that he is prepared to gamble or is just a complete idiot. The latter is probably closer to the truth and I'll remember his time at the club as shambolic.

He came on for the last 25 mins. He made a good run down the left wing and was played in after some nice skill by Zog, Stevens then played a great ball between their keeper and defenders but nobody got on the end of it. He was kinda caught out for the 4th goal but it was more down to the fact that Zog miscontrolled on the halfway line and gifted them possession while our players were pushed up.

He will probably say the same thing he has been saying all pre-season regardless of wether we win or lose. 'It's all about getting our fitness up'
