  1. Records are there to be broken and what a way to do it. Two points off the top, two great home wins in a week and secure in the CL places! By the way Saka loves a roll around on the ground doesn't he?
  2. The PL runners-up, I can't wait! Coral have us fourth favourites to win the league @ 28/1 by the way, it's been a few years since we were that low in the betting to win this.
  3. Had a little look on "Goonersworld" this morning to see how they are feeling about the game: "This will be a different game altogether, if we get a point from this it will be a good result, the Don will be looking for payback." "This is going to be tough. Let’s hope Villa empty their tank smashing City before our game." "A draw will be good." Posts made after last night's win (the posts after the first one below, are responses to it): "Jesus, Martinelli, Saka, Odegaard, rice, Gabriel, saliba, white; when these 8 core players are fit,Villa will be lucky to get a draw against us even if they are playing at home. We are that strong." "The way Villa played against City and the way we played against Luton, we would be lucky to get a draw." "That is like the kiss of death lol we will be the ones lucky to get a draw out of this IF we are lucky." "We will need to turn up more than we did at Luton, Can't see us scoring 4 at villa." "Delete this!" Nice to see that 99% of Gooners understand that this might not be quite a walk in the park for them now. Link: https://www.goonersworld.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=146562&start=15
  4. I think given the pundits believe the team that are currently in 4th place in the PL will ultimately win the league, that the team that are in third place have a chance of winning it too. Pep agreed, when asked if we were in the title race: “Yes, definitely, because of the way they are playing. When you are there, you see the physicality, the tempo, the speed, the bench, the organisation from Unai, in the set pieces, the high pressing how incredibly they defend in the back four, a good goalkeeper, absolutely.” Pep should know...
  5. We all started really believing on the 10th January 1981, when we beat Liverpool 2-0 at Villa Park. Was last night's equally well deserved win against Citeh a repeat of that moment? This is our best start to a top flight season since then and our most successive home wins since 1903....day's just don't come much better than this one!
  6. Curcic was one of the worst signings we have made as a club during the past 60 years, if not the worst. He looked a world beater before he came to Villa Park and like Stan he could have been an outstanding signing. Sadly the money and the fee went to his head. Football and Villa really didn't matter to him.
  7. Difficult question isn't it? Having thought about it though, I will take the win both cups and qualify for the CL too option. Champions League qualification brings us in the big bucks that would make FFP less of a headache, when it comes to buying players and it would also help retain our best players, who fancy a crack at CL football. It would also give us the chance to compete for that trophy for the first time since 1983. Winning either of the cups brings Europa League qualification, as well as sees us lift a trophy. I would love us to lift the FA Cup again, whilst Peter McParland is there to witness it and the same applies to Villa fans, who were old enough to witness 82, but too young to do that in 57. It would be great for fans who were too young to see our 82 win, to see us win a European trophy and for those too young to have seen us win a major trophy to tick that box. Not wanting to be too greedy, I would take the FA Cup, but it would be nice to lift any trophy again. If we can't have all three, I will settle for the FA Cup and top 5. By the way, where is the League Champions option?
  8. This isn't a game that we can afford to lose. Come on Villa!
  9. Semenyo must be related to the referee still to be on the field. No doubt they will replace him at half time to avoid the referee having to do what he should have already done, in the second half. We need to get Cash and Diarby on.
  10. My head says top 5, but inside something is saying "Win the League" again and that's a terrific feeling to have back again!
  11. I was referring to the last line in your previous post below, when I said there wouldn't be a choice between the two in my opinion. That said, again I accept the points that you have made, but our captain's still not worth selling in my opinion. Leaving the question of who we might sell, which I'm happy to leave to UE and his team. As our current captain has been mentioned, does anyone else think it might be time to make a cheeky offer for one of our previous captains, in one of the next two windows? He has a couple of medals in his pocket now and might like a move from Citeh's bench, to try and win some more, as well as to keep his place in the England squad. Even if it didn't happen, it would be hilarious to see the player's reaction, as well as that of Pep and the Citeh fans..£45m-£50m anyone?
  12. I haven't done the sums on that, because we will be getting CL and winning the Conference League.
  13. I see your point, but if it were a choice between Bailey or McGinn, there really isn't any choice in my opinion.
  14. Those four are all current first team players, or would be in Tyrone's case. Would we really get enough for them at the end of the season to enable us to replace them all and also strengthen elsewhere at the prices that you rightly quote? I think we are more likely to spend big on another three players and keep these four, or most of them, so that the squad grows stronger.
  15. We are in Europe and in a Champions League position, yet the talk is again of "sell to buy".... Have I gone back in the Tardis to the days when HDE treated every pound spent, like it was his own, rather than the club's? We should be thinking of adding a couple of players to strengthen the squad for the run in. We should not think about selling a first team player, because that would weaken us and reduce our chances of making this the season to remember it looks like becoming. Sell the odd player who isn't good enough, if you can, but don't do so without replacing them and don't do the press and pundits job for them, by linking our players with a move!
  16. I thought that the Sky pundits were more than a little "Spursy" as Roy put it. Two wins from safety and two points off the top...we're having a tin bath!
  17. Sheffield United must have gotten a get out of relegation free card with their vote.
  18. I doubt the Saudi's are that bothered about kicking up a stink, but I agree that Neves will do what he's told to do.
  19. Perhaps, Neves moved to Saudi for a big pay day, having already been told he would be signing for Newcastle in January, in any case?
  20. I think that anyone loaning him would know what they would be getting and previous loans have shown that value seldom increases after a season, more likely if he's played a part in keeping them up, they might look somewhere else the following season and leave the player with us. I suspect a loan would suit the loaning club more than us, we would save half a season's wages (or a proportion of it) but I would want an obligation to buy, we have been stung too often in the past with open ended loans. Would they be able to agree any deals in their situation or have the cash to make it happen? In general, a loan has to be a positive result for us, imo.

    Ezri Konsa

Yes, you would have thought that he would have given him 10 minutes, or what on earth was the point? I guess he will say this was an opportunity for Ezri to get a feel of being in the squad, but in reality we all know it was a chance for him to crush the hopes of another Villa player, he's as petty as that!
  22. John

    Douglas Luiz

We won't be selling to Arsenal. Firstly they can't afford him, secondly he's happy where he is and thirdly why would we sell to strengthen a direct competitor for the PL title?

    Tyrone Mings

Let's not jump to conclusions folks. It's Instagram after all. I'm expecting a smiling face on his next post and Tyrone saying that he aims to be back in training, so that he's available for the title run-in and for Athens. I wouldn't want to bet against him!
  24. Always worth having around at Christmas too.....
