  1. So have we...just about. It seems we are going under the radar in the FA Cup too.
  2. Make it so. We should be able to raise £4.5m.
  3. If he goes anywhere it will be to Newcastle, they would find some way to get near to the salary demands that he would make, with a little help with their Saudi investors. Him and Phillips should offer them the pedestrian midfield they seem to be looking for (perhaps Southgate is giving Howe some helpful tips). I would have perhaps taken Henderson 3 or 4 years ago, but as has been said, he's way past his best now and wouldn't be worth the high wages he would anticipate getting.
  4. Or away... Jumping ahead, Sheffield United at home in the 6th Round too, we owe them one! Pity Stevenage were subject to their own giant-killing (not).
  5. We could offer half of what Spurs paid for him to rescue him from his "nightmare move" to London, it would be worth it to see Levy's reaction. They have Richarlison, as well as Johnson too, so I agree that he would be more likely to get games with us, but I think he probably prefers the West End to Broad Street. It didn't work for him last time and it seems he may be keener on another shot in London than he is, another shot in the PL. His loss.
  6. Spence looked really impressive at Forest, but seems to have not progressed since he left them, in fact the opposite seems to have happened. Like other young players before him, a move to a London club and a wad of cash burning a hole in the pocket, doesn't seem to have helped his football progress. in In any case, even if UE thought that he could pull him round, I doubt Levy would want to do business with a club that he is probably targeting to finish above this season.
  7. I hear he's one of the "Hackney Diamonds" and I'm sure that UE would get a tune out of him. Edwards would also be a great signing at anywhere near that price, the EFL is well worth a look for young talent imo.
  8. I am and have said before that I will never forget seeing that giant of a man emerging from the tunnel for his first game at Villa Park. Players just bounced off him. He had thighs the size of my waist back then, not any longer though... His best days were behind him by then, but he did a lot to improve our central defence in the third division, as did JT more recently in the Championship. They both played a big part in getting our club back up to where we needed to be.
  9. I see Sutton has said "I think they (Boro) can cause the upset this time if Unai Emery makes as many changes as I expect". Bring back Lawro BBC, I think you have to be anti-Villa to do these predictions.
  10. I think the amount quoted to buy him was around half of that and yes, I would pay that for him.
  11. I think he does, that's why we signed him. Bailey took a lot longer to come to the boil. He has just begun to add goals to his game, which will increase his confidence and I think we may well look back at his signing, as another UE masterstroke at the end of the season.
  12. Because he might end up back with us and we might not get CL on goal difference. A bit of a stretch I know, but it was just the glass half empty taking over for a minute.
  13. Looks like he may regret scoring against us, as much as we did seeing him do it.
  14. Digne has been one of our better and most consistent players this season. With him and Moreno, we have the cover we are looking for elsewhere. It would be a pity to lose him now, as we stand on the verge of something big in the second half of the season, just to save on his wages, when we would then need to replace him during this window.
  15. He wanted out in the summer and was brought back into their team only recently. It is reported that he may leave for Everton, Lazio, Inter or Fiorentina during this window for under £10m.
  16. I bow to your unquestionable knowledge of FFP then, but please allow those of us that may be perceived as "ignorant" by comparison, to have an opinion and to give it. Some of those opinions might be "bs" as you so succinctly put it, but clubs have been charged/found guilty of cheating in the past, so it is not unreasonable to suggest they, along with others may be doing so again, whatever rules are in place. That could also be said to be the reality for example...
  17. Nothing positive from Jacob there then. Money too tight to mention because of FFP unless you are Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United/City, Spurs, Arsenal or Newcastle (who will sign players by hook or by crook, by means of dodgy Saudi deals) it seems. We need Monchi to work his magic on a budget then, or that is what we are saying, I'm just hoping that is part of a very cunning plan.
  18. I would take Gray of the two. Doubt they would have us as their first choice club to sell him to though, they still don't seem to like us...
  19. John

    Douglas Luiz

I can imagine the conversation now. Anything to help with your title bid Mr Arteta, you are always so gracious about our club in your post match interviews. ESR you say, would you like cash with that too? In reality: You're really having a tin bath Gooner breath. Why would he want to join you lot of chockers? Mind the Gap in the league table and in our valuation of Douglas matey! ESR you say, throw in Rice with that and it's still a very big No!
  20. You would have thought that they would have let him finish the job that he had started. It isn't very often that a current Bloose manager's name is sung at Villa Park, but it's an honour that he fully merited. Cooper next cab off the rank? Surely he will get many better offers, but like Wayne, he has a face that would sink a thousand ships, so would feel at home with the rest of the knuckle draggers there.
  21. Newcastle are apparently interested in Henderson and Neves as well as Phillips, so I guess that they will get first dibs on anyone from Saudi. I like him too, Sky are currently linking him with a move to Luton for around £11m. I doubt that they would pay that or that Sunderland would want to sell, or that he would jump ship to them, but at that price someone in the PL would surely take a pot.
  22. I understand your points, although I think Digne may be match fit by the end of the month or possibly at the start of the next. I just think that if there is a deal to be done and it's one that UE wants done, we really need to back him now. We hope that we are in a similar situation this time next season, but there is no guarantee. Quality players will want to join us now and they will back themselves to get games like Tilemans did. If they don't want to come now they probably never will, so we will at least not need to waste time looking at them in the next window, when hopefully CL qualification will have boosted our permissible FFP spending. We might also have up to 6 FA Cup ties and 7 Europa Conference League games to field teams in alongside our PL fixtures. So, I think a couple of additions would help us during the run-in.
  23. I raise you to 2-3 and would go RB, DM, Striker.
