  1. Not quite time for us to start singing "Win the League" again, just yet in my opinion...perhaps after Christmas. At least if we just miss out on the title this time, we will have the consolation of Champions League football next season (as well as having won the conference league, of course).
  2. Quite a few of us moved to the Scottish Stand when the standing ended and most of us probably haven't got enough puff to blow them up anymore, they would just hit the roof too. Would be nice to see a new generation of fans start doing it again behind the goals, can't see the corporate clients being up for it though.
  3. I thought you did get a ticket and that is why it was £60 rather than £120 for season ticket holders.
  4. Then I think he needs to change that policy until we get another back-up keeper (although, I'm not adverse to giving him the second half, if we are 2 or 3 up at home). I would take sixth and winning the conference league. That said, I would really like another winning day out at Wembley too.
  5. It's usually announced during the match though and I don't recall it not being in the press the following day. Perhaps the abacus is faulty, they are still checking the corporate figures (in disbelief) or the computer says "No" to anything below 35,000?
  6. This kit problem is not a new thing, I remember England wore a lightweight cellular fabric shirt specifically designed for Mexico'70 to avoid excessive perspiration, it's just amazing that 53 years later our kit providers for the men's and women's teams, are producing such a poor shirt for us. I assume the other team's that they provide shirts for don't have the same problem. Is it that we or they went "cheap as chips" for our shirts?
  7. I have looked for it and can't find it anywhere. Strange isn't it? somewhere....
  8. Out at an early stage once again and this cup looks increasingly winnable after last night's draw. Still it is the least important of the competitions that we are in this season and although it could have given us a trophy, it would only see us qualify for the Conference League again. I'm sure UE learned a lot from last night and the main thing is that the players that are outside our usual starting line up, are on the bench for a reason. Whilst they can do a job for 25 minutes at the end of games, they didn't do anything to make him think they should start games more often and the one who had said that he was unhappy with not getting more games gifted Everton, what proved to be their winner with a sloppy pass. We need to start games with our best available starting line up in future, when those games really matter like next Thursday. We didn't start playing as we can until the closing minutes last night and by then it proved too late. I had forgotten how annoyed I get when opposition fans celebrate a win, until last night, but they wanted it more didn't they? This was never going to be an easy win after their away win at the weekend and with the large following they had, and giving them a two goal start left us with a mountain to climb with time running out. We go again in the league at the weekend and in Europe on Thursday, two wins are needed.
  9. They are coming off the back of a rare away win and are likely to give us problems if we rest players and they don't. I'm hoping that we keep any changes to a minimum and look at giving players a rest in the second half, when we have put ourselves in a commanding position. It would be nice to be going into the knock out games of the Conference League, as League Cup holders and already qualified for Europe next season. All we need is a run of good cup draws (surely we are owed that) and to not treat any opponent too lightly in this competition. Come on Villa, it has been too long since our name was again written on this trophy.
  10. I see BBC Sports "gossip" column, claims today that Arsenal's sporting director Edu, has held talks with Ollie's agent about a move and that Chelsea (of course they are! ) are also interested. Their source is only "Football Transfers" but until he actually puts pen to paper, this is going to be an ongoing issue for the club and it increasingly looks like his agent wants to keep his options open. 11. Hard to say. Not many keepers will want to come to back up Emi and nobody could compete with him imo. I have suggested we look at an EFL keeper in the past, who would see a step up to the PL as an incentive, despite only being likely to get the odd start. Monchi may be able to find someone in Europe too, but it will be a tough find to bring in someone who can play comfortably with the ball at his feet, is commanding in the air and is also good between the sticks.
  12. That's more like it. 11 Minutes wasn't quite enough!!!
  13. John

    Louie Barry

Scoring goals for fun isn't he? Brilliant stuff, this will be a much needed tremendous boost for his confidence. Stockport's Haaland!
  14. Last night's defeat and AZ losing too, has shown there are no easy games in our group, particularly away from home.
  15. Too many changes in the starting line up tonight. This was always unlikely to be a gimme and so it proved. We need to beat them at home and win three of our other four games to win this group now. At least we might get a bigger price on us winning the trophy now from the bookies. A disappointing return, but thankfully it isn't over two legs and we have the opportunity to put this right in our remaining group games.
  16. Just had a look at the odds for tonight. Coral have us at 4/9 to win, with Legia at 11/2, incredible odds imo, I know the bookies have us as favourites to win the cup, but we were not priced like this in 1981-82 for our away games! I doubt this will be such a walk in the park for us, I have my cash on for us to lift the trophy, but suspect we will have to be at our best tonight to win and a draw (16/5 by the way) wouldn't be that bad a result, when it comes to finishing top of the group. For me, we should start with our strongest available team and begin bringing players off the bench, if/when we have a goal or two lead. Looking forward to it, as someone who will remain nameless once said "it's good to be back"...."Goodness gracious"
  17. I guess if someone wants to pay and is able to do so then so be it, the same has been the case with executive boxes for many years. Trouble is these packages don't seem so attractive when things aren't going quite so well, we all recall the empty corporate seats in the Championship. Villa appreciated the season ticket holders and fans who were able to pay to attend individual games back then and I'm sure they do now. There is a line to be drawn between corporate customers and the fans that Tommy Docherty once claimed that, "If you hung 11 Villa shirts on a washing line five thousand fans would turn up to watch them!" The club needs the extra seats that the new North Stand will bring to be able to accommodate these fans, alongside those with more disposable income. In the interim, as Dillon66 has said above, the club should swiftly move to "significantly upgrade what is currently offered to loyal, regular supporters in terms of catering and welfare facilities in the main stands and concourses" that way the vast majority of fans will be having their needs attended to alongside those of the club's corporate clients.
  18. Whatever floats their boat I guess, but that sort of hospitality is not for me.
  19. Chateau Plonk and Watney's Red Barrel then. A bit like an all-inclusive holiday, I'm sure a few will manage to get their money's worth.
  20. So the Holte Suite (now Lower Grounds) has gone the way of the bar half way up the "Scottish" Stand (now Bar 1874), namely being no longer available to "ordinary" season ticket holders. Is the Holte Pub the only venue around the stadium that is still available to the odd season ticket holder on match days? It seems there is now a clear divide between the corporate customer and the season ticket holder, who faces a battle to get anything to eat or drink from inside the refreshment kiosks, within their respective stands. I can understand that the club are looking to maximise their income, but as has been said, sorting out those kiosks so they are more easily used, would increase match income too.
  21. Champagne it is then, pre and post game! Huzzah!
  22. Or £100m if you are Liverpool or Chelsea. We can do better with £75m imo. Over the next two windows, I would agree other than, I think Ramsey and Buendia (when fit) will have that position covered.
  23. I have to say Douglas is looking good though. Ollie sadly, looks like he couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo just now.
