  1. I'm shocked Ten Haag didn't get a shout too, after all he did get the November "Manager of the Month" award.
  2. I see Danny Murphy (why does he hate us so?) has decided that his manager of the year is Gary O'Neil and that Eddie Howe was worthy of an "honourable mention". Has he forgotten someone?
  3. I think we might miss him most in those last two games, but he will be an option that we don't have available, which weakens us imo.
  4. Another injury, we haven't had a lot of luck with them have we? I have to say, when he went off, it didn't look good. We will miss him, fortunately the winter break will take up a couple of weeks of his enforced absence.
  5. I agree that there is talent in the EFL that we might well wish we had taken a punt on in a year or two and a couple of them are our own players. Players like Adam Scott, Jack Clarke and Jobe Bellingham, could be added to those that you have mentioned. How and if we spend the £50m+ that we may have available during this window, will be for UE and his team to decide. They may also have just as promising a list of players from outside of England, that could do the job for us. They will know, the question is whether such players could make a difference to a top six club, which is what we are looking for. The problem with the likes of Gallagher and Palhinha, is that they would probably cost the same as 2 or 3 players, that we might otherwise be able to buy off those lists. I don't think that we can guarantee being in such a strong position as we currently are, at the beginning of the next couple of windows, so I'm hoping that we strengthen now with a right back, a loan for a central defender (if Lenglet goes), a defensive midfielder and another striker (enabling Duran to go out on loan). I'm also hoping that we do our business quickly.
  6. He would be £50m - £60m. Very good player, but he will have more than a few offers.
  7. A game of two halves. Two nil and we ****** it up! The Mancs were there for the taking, they have had a miserable first half to the season, they were poor at the start today and their crowd were on their backs at half time. Ten Hag was rescued by an inept Villa in the second half and by that lot playing at their best against us, against all the odds, for probably the first and only time this season. Of course their misfiring striker, who just never scores for them, scored their winner tonight, as we all knew that he would. At 2-0 up, I thought this couldn't possibly happen again could it? Of course it could, this has happened so often to us against them. We really need to beat Burnley now. Two disappointing results within a week is more than enough, we don't want a run of such results to develop and we need to get points on the board before too big a dent is put in what had been such a tremendous season, before these two games halted our progress. Our winning home run has ended, as has our habit of winning the games we take the lead in and of bouncing back after a poor performance. Let's make this a two game blip and not a slump of the like that we have suffered as a club in the past. It has been a miserable and disappointing week for us, but we can put that behind us at the weekend.
  8. I understand what you mean by "Euro distraction" but I would be happy to have that distraction every year and I'm sure Spurs aren't happy about being free of that distraction. I also agree that our squad needs more depth and 5th would also do for me, but I don't think that Spurs are such a force as you describe, they could finish top 5, but could also drop back, as they did last season.
  9. Really? I rather think we are a tad better than them and they would still be behind us with a win, and also have to visit Villa Park. They are also Spursy....
  10. Last night was just one game and although we were some way off our best, we were still only a couple of VAR decisions away from a win. We have bounced back before after dropping points and we can do so again. Top 5 is likely to give us CL qualification and we remain on course for that. A lot of people thought that our title challenge had faltered when we lost at home to Ipswich in 1981, but our manager still believed and we all know what happened then, history might still repeat itself. UTV!
  11. I think our captain, Watkins and Diaby are actually very good, that Bailey has been in recent weeks and that Ramsey can be once again with another couple of games, because I'm all for a bit of "blood and thunder" myself. It also seems that you don't rate Emi. Other than that, I'm with you.
  12. I hope that we don't need to go down that "sell to buy" route that and we can build on what we already have. I think we should make the CL, but they certainly put some hurdles for clubs like us to clear don't they?
  13. I wonder how much we can reasonably spend in the coming window? Unlike Chelsea, we will have to keep a weary eye on that FFP thing. Two or three players would give us a squad that could better handle suspensions, injuries and the weight of fixtures that we face in the second half of the season. It seems Lenglet will have another option, if he leaves that would enable us to bring in another loan, I assume and who wouldn't want to join us, when they are shown the league table?
  14. Goals from Joachim and Dublin (2) Mike.
  15. Looking forward to a chorus of "We'll be top by ten o'clock" tonight, it's been too long since we sung that. The game that sticks in my mind most from that time, was the one on 13th December when we came back from 2-0 down, after a prolonged half time (due to Santa's fall) to win 3-2 and go back to the top of the PL. We spent quite a lot of the time at the top that season.
  16. We gained points on Liverpool and Manchester City this weekend, we are sneaking past them on the rails just like Leicester did, when they won the title. Nobody was convinced that they could maintain a title challenge and it seems many pundits feel the same about us, good! If we can win our next home game and Arsenal draw at Anfield next weekend, then we will go into Christmas in pole position. What a nice Christmas present that would be for us all and who knows, we might just stay there. One thing that's for sure is that I wouldn't want to bet against us, Coral now have us as 11/1, so it seems they have learned something from Leicester and we're not Leicester, we are Aston Villa and we have done it before, just ask an Ipswich fan!
  17. Is there such a thing as a worse card than a red now then? That's the only possible reason for Frank's comment. I can understand defending your player, but that is a case of defending the indefensible.
  18. I hope so too, but I very much doubt it. They will be more likely to fine us for not keeping control of our players, which UE was attempting to do, when that idiot of a ref showed him a yellow card.
  19. Well Brentford deserved that. They were lucky to end the game with 10 men. They were so negative in the second half and some of those challenges were really X certificate stuff. Mee and Maupay are so easy to detest and they were not alone in being over the top today. The referee was awful and I would have said that he lost control of the game, but he never really had any control over it did he? We got out of jail today, but we won and we had the last laugh!
  20. This ref thinks everything is so amusing...he is running the pundit close for the "most annoying" award!
  21. Manchester City didn't, but I know where you are coming from.
  22. Really missing Digne and Douglas aren't we? I would imagine there will be a lot to say at half time. We need to show a lot more in the second half!
  23. I couldn't see them loaning even him to a rival for their league title, more likely he will rock up at Newcastle as one of their shady transfer deals next month.
