  1. Perhaps a little bit of a flat track bully. He’s not a bad player but he’s not really what we need most of the time. Whether you rate him or not, he isn’t worth anywhere near what we paid for him and what we’ll pay him personally over the next couple of years. I think he’ll still play a part, it’s just depressing knowing what his wages are. We have no chance of shifting him.
  2. He definitely deserves more time under this new manager and hope he comes good. As a club, we can’t afford to sell players for half what we paid!! Saying that, we’ve given away so many for free over the years, nothing surprises me.
  3. What are the ‘raw attributes’ in your book? For me, it’s pace, strength, dribbling, heading, passing, shooting. Things like that. Buendia doesn’t have many of them. You may well think he is a good player and that he’ll come good for us, but I don’t agree that he has many of the raw attributes to be a top player. Hope I’m wrong.
  4. It does. What we need is pace and power in attack. If we can bring in another wide player with pace, it will allow us to play Ramsey and NEW either side of Luiz/Kamara/Dendoncker with Bailey and Watkins further forward. Emery will know what he wants but I can't see more than 1 coming in, in January. With the new hybrid formation, I expect us to play something like this after Jan... -------------------------------------Watkins------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------------------Bailey------------------------------------ -----New--------------------------------------------------------------------Ramsey ----------------------------Luiz----------------Kamara------------------------------ Digne---------------------Mings-----------Konsa-------------------------Cash --------------------------------------Martinez----------------------------------------- In the Summer, it will again be more out's than In's, but Emery might want another centre half and another forward player.
  5. Very unlikely Zaha will leave Palace for us. He will want to go to a top 6 club and play in Europe. He's good enough to do it too.
  6. He was a little unlucky yesterday, Olsen however, was a disaster. Should have anticipated the first by being on the edge of his box and coming out to clear the ball over the top. God knows what that pass was for the second. Should have claimed the cross for the fourth. It was hands down the worst goalkeeping display I've seen since Nyland in the 5-5 against Forest and even that wasn't as bad. Don't think Mings did a lot wrong yesterday in truth. He'll start against Brighton.
  7. I realised that after I posted it. Maybe he knew if he'd chipped it and scored, his teammates would have bollocked him.
  8. Surprised so many want to keep Sanson or think the club will look to keep him. As much as I’d love him to come in and be brilliant for us, there is a reason he isn’t playing much. No way we’ll be able to get rid of Ings, Coutinho due to their contracts.
  9. The bloke obviously has a heavy set build, but he’s still carrying too much weight. Honestly, I think if he wants to continue playing at this level, he needs to lose a stone or two. Perhaps I’m being harsh but he really is a tubby little f***** when you watch him on TV.
  10. It's not really a Gerrard vs. Emery thing, I'm commenting more on the fact that statistically it is very poor and we really need to turn it around.
  11. Impressed with his finish last night - he's learnt that he can actually lift the ball over the keeper! Annoyingly, if he'd done the same against Leeds and Forest, we'd be much better off. Has looked ok --> good in the last few matches. Hopefully he keeps improving under Emery but we do still probably need better.
  12. Suicide having a player like him play in it. I like Chambers and actually think he's been very good when called upon but last night he was really poor. Mings, Carlos and Konsa will the three CB's moving forward. Can't see Chambers and Bednarek getting much game time. Still think we may go for another centre half in the Summer albeit I think there are other areas that need addressing.
  13. Kind of agree. However, regardless of manager, we do need to pick up some points on the road soon. Our record on the road is abysmal so far this season.
  14. I'd hazard a guess that 99% of this board has no idea what you're talking about!
  15. It's becoming a real concern. Discuss.
  16. I don’t know where to put this, but thought it may as well go in the Emery thread. I don’t think we were that poor last night. I think ultimately, a couple of very, very poor individual performances cost us the game. Emery had a gameplan and it’s always nice to see a manager who has thought out a way of beating a side. Hell, we even got the all important first goal and it was a terrific one at that. BUT. As a club, over the last 2/3 years, us fans have constantly been told it’s important that we aim to win a trophy. Purslow, Gerrard and even Emery have spoken a lot about us going on a cup run and how it would be great for the fans to see us go further in the cup competitions. So, why did we play a whole new back line last night (Konsa aside)? Olsen spread panic throughout a makeshift defence who probably haven’t ever played together before. That’s a recipe for disaster and although we did get the first goal, you could see from the very first minute that we looked very, very nervous playing out from the back and when balls came over the top towards the keeper. On Monday, most of our squad has 6 weeks without a match. Not only that, do you really need to rest a goalkeeper? F**** me, I’ll do more exercise on my walk to work this morning than they do most matches. It’s not a taxing position to the point you can’t play 3 games in 10 days. It just isn’t Im left really disappointed about last night. Like, when your parents say, ‘they’re not angry, they’re disappointed’. That’s how I feel. We’ve thrown away another chance to win silverware - regardless of whether we’d have won it anyway. It’s the hope that kills you.
  17. I don’t actually think he was that bad. He wasn’t good, don’t get me wrong, but I can’t remember him being any worse than Chambers or Konsa…? Obviously not good enough to be a starter but this is a left back on loan who we won’t sign permanently I don’t imagine. Not too put out by him. Olsen on the other hand..
  18. There was concrete interest in him this Summer just gone from West Ham. Unfortunately, we had a manager who not only saw him as a key player, but went as far as to make him captain. We should have cashed in, in the Summer had we any foresight. Right now, he looks like a competition winner. Slow, unfit and terrified every time the ball comes his way. He’s regressing at an alarming rate and quite frankly just looks too overweight for this level. Id be mega surprised if he’s still here next year. We may not be able to get big bucks for him, but he’s worth £10-15m to someone.
  19. You and me both. He seems transformed and his close control with his left foot is absolutely superb. I still think he needs to improve the physical side of his game but right now, he’s one of the first names on the teamsheet from an attacking perspective. Looks like he has a goal/assist in him in every match.
  20. He’s superior to McGinn now in almost every aspect of his play. His athleticism, eye for a goal and ability to run with the ball makes him one of the first names on the teamsheet at the moment. With the way Emery wants to play, Ramsey, Watkins and Bailey must all start.
  21. 4 of those players are just fine.
  22. Don’t. He’s had a few drinks tonight.
  23. Just looks like a slightly slower, poorer version of Matt Targett.
