  1. He wasn't out of control. He nicked the ball off Digne who had taken a loose first touch and drew a pretty nasty foul. As did McGinn. It's a penalty (and you know it ;-))
  2. I thought he was very good too yesterday tbf. He has the transfer fee, age profile and 168,000 a week hanging over his head, but as long as he keeps putting in good performances, then I'm fine with it!
  3. Yes he did, he nicked it off him. He got there before Digne did regardless of whether he'd have gone on to keep possession of the ball. McGinn wouldn't have got to the ball had Dunk not taken him out, he'd over hit it. Doesn't mean it isn't a penalty.
  4. Digne's wasn't given because VAR isn't interested in giving the right decision, it's interested in protecting the referees initial decision. Still, even I'm surprised Digne's wasn't given. It's as clear as day.
  5. This. Honestly, I know we're biased on here, but it's as much a penalty as the grass is green. There is absolutely zero doubt it's a penalty, and quite a nasty foul actually (albeit accidental).
  6. How was ours a pen then? Dunk was in the process of sliding for the ball and McGinn's feet got in the way. Should never have been a penalty for us.
  7. He did ok yesterday. I thought he tried to make things happen. Fair play to him. He was not worse/better than most out there and I often feel he is our weakest link.
  8. It was a pen, but he also played well.
  9. Such a good player and a dream for the manager. Left back, right back, left mid, right mid. Doesn’t matter. You play him, and he performs every.single.match. Probably one of my favourite ever Villa players. As good as he is as a fullback, nothing will beat that feeling when he played left wing for us and he squared his defender up to run at him. It got Villa park to its feet because you knew something was about to happen. What a career. What a man.
  10. It might be that he has some sort of transfer payment triggered if he gets to a certain amount of appearances for us? Not sure. I just can’t understand how somebody with such a strong reputation when he came here, can just not ever feature for us. I kind of want him gone now just so we don’t have to think about this bizarre situation anymore.
  11. Got the biggest chant of all from the away end when he came to the fans at the end of the match. The fans will always have a soft spot for McGinn. He should never have been made captain and did not deserve to start the amount of matches he did under Gerrard. Used properly, he can be an asset to the squad but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he moved in the next couple of windows. Played well enough today. Especially the last half hour where he did a lot to relieve pressure and really got stuck in.
  12. Came here to post something similar. To be honest, time wasting is a cancer in football and it doesn’t get looked at enough. Villa wasted a lot of time today and whilst it’s great that it’s helped us see out the win, ultimately, you have to ask yourself, have fans come to see a game of football and to be entertained or a team just waste as much time as possible with no intention of taking throw ins and goal kicks quickly? Its great that it’s helped us get 3 points today but somewhere down the line, we’re going to be those Brighton fans complaining and moaning that a team has done it to us. I think I read somewhere that the ball is in play, on average, for 58 minutes of a PL match. That’s pretty shocking if you think about it. Surely the answer is to stop the clock if the ball goes out of play and perhaps shorten the match? I don’t know, but time wasting is horrible in general and it’s the fans that get robbed at the end of the day.
  13. Disagree. It’s a penalty. I’m amazed it wasn’t given. It’s a heavy touch by Digne and the Brighton player nips in before getting absolutely pelted. Not sure how Digne’s standing foot ‘gets the ball’. But I don’t care. We’ve had some howlers given against us in recent times so we deserve a bit of luck.
  14. A coming together? Digne boots his ankle and doesn’t kick the ball. How is it not a penalty? It’s accidental, granted, but it’s still a blatant penalty/foul. Without question.
  15. Not sure how anyone can claim it wasn’t a penalty for them. It’s a savage foul, albeit accidental. It’s a penalty. Absolutely no doubt about it.
  16. Watkins offers so much and yet frustrates so often also. If we get a decent offer, I think we’d be wise to sell and gamble a little on buying somebody we think is better. I honestly think you can forget selling Ings. He’s going nowhere given his age profile and wages. McGinn needs to go, as do the likes of Guilbert, Nakamba and Sanson (probably). Archer needs a loan. There’s still a lot of work to be done with this squad but outgoings are probably more important than incomings at the moment. Our wage bill is far too bloated for where we are in the league. Emery will also want his own players.
  17. The only way we sign a central midfielder is surely if we let Sanson, McGinn and Nakamba leave? Or at the very least, 2 of them. Quality aside, we’re stacked in Centre Mid.
  18. He copied the 1_8_7_4 account with the Emery stuff. Wouldn’t believe a word he says.
  19. We should be looking at that Bentancur over at Spurs.
  20. Misplacing simple passes and catching crosses isn’t exactly evidence of him being thrown under the bus by the manager. He may not be suited to that sort of game but let’s not pretend he was anything other than horrific in what was probably the worst goalkeeping performance I’ve seen from a Villa player in however long. Maybe we’re spoilt with Martinez, but Olsen looks every bit a car crash of a goalkeeper. I’d be surprised if he plays for us much again.
  21. Probably where I’m at. Coutinho has been poor on a number of occasions but even in games where he doesn’t play all that well, he can do something that others can’t. And when he does play well, there isn’t anybody else in our squad that can match him. Buendia is just a bit ‘meh’ for me. No pace, strength, shooting ability, dribbling ability and he loses the ball too much. The people saying he will come good, that’s fine, but I think it’s wishful thinking rather than the evidence in front of your eyes. Bailey is a good example of someone who had the potential to come good and is now showing it. He had a bit of pace, very good dribbling ability, has a cracking shot on him and he’s a good finisher. I always thought he’d fail based on his attitude and his lack of effort but the attributes were always there. Buendia doesn’t have that. He works hard, but I don’t see much quality in him. Not yet anyway.
