  1. Not sure I buy that. If that were the case, he wouldn't be running his contract down! He'll have claret and blue in his blood if we offer him £160k a week (not saying we will). Zaha is a terrific player but not sure he's what we need or if it's a sensible move right now. That said, to get a player of his quality, you're going to need to spend about £30-50m in transfer fees and that's without the wages of the player in question on top of that. Players on free transfers are so attractive to clubs given the avoidance of the initial outlay. To put it into perspective using crude maths and very little real understanding of how transfers work... Lets say we signed Zaha on a 3yr deal on £175k a week. That is £175,000*156. Total outlay of £27,300,000. Buendia cost us £35,000,000 + his wages (I assume 70k a week for 4 years). Total outlay of £49,500,000. These are two very rough examples and don't take into account things like resale value and age. All I'm saying is, the free transfer market can really throw up some great deals for clubs.
  2. I wouldn’t call them dogshit. They’re still a better team than us and they’re above us. I do agree that both them and Spurs are beatable and I think we’ll pick up a win against one of the two.
  3. This made me laugh more than it should have!
  4. He may well be, but he's still not good enough.
  5. Traore on a free, on decent wages, is surely a decent addition provided we get rid of a fair few in the process!? For some reason, I've always liked him.
  6. There are some seriously good free transfers coming up in the Summer. There might be a few teams bidding decent amounts of money in Jan to tie up those deals a little earlier. The selling club obviously have little choice but to accept. Not sure we have any chance of attracting the likes of Tielemans and Zaha but always worth a shot!
  7. He’s quietly going about having a very good season. Started off shaky but the last 6/7 matches I think he’s been close to excellent. The miss against Leeds still pisses me off though
  8. He can do that if he’s allowed to get forward. He’s much better facing the oppositions goal than he is facing his own goal. Just a reminder that Gerrard played him as a deep lying 8 who covered the full backs. Moron.
  9. Really? Doesn't he start for Argentina when fit?
  10. Say what you like about Zaha but he's better than anything we have here. He's a superb player and I think he'd thrive up front in our system. Wages etc. would be an issue.
  11. Ok, I understand it’s not a defence, but at the same time, there is a proportionate response here and I’m sure that isn’t quite WW3!
  12. The full fledged response might just be an absolute gluttony of weapons delivered to the Ukrainians. It might be even more sanctions and that comment might be in retaliation for a deliberate attack. There is just no way the Russians have just decided to target a farm in Poland. It’s a stray missile or something shot down by Ukrainians and the last thing anyone needs is huge retaliation.
  13. Agreed here. It was a daft pass by Martinez. It probably was a foul, but nobody wants to receive that pass from a goalkeeper. Suicidal.
  14. I'm not sure a team in our position can have that much quality for what will effectively be two positions. If we were in Europe, maybe, but that feels like overkill for the 2 spots in central midfield.
  15. So Luiz for Kessie in a straight swap deal. We having that?
  16. Fine, but we cause ourselves all manner of problems by doing this and I can't say it doesn't frustrate me. We lose the ball so often playing this way and it's costs us two goals in two games. Possibly more, but I can't remember the passages of play for the United goals. Agreed that it's good to suck their midfielders towards our goal to create space in behind, we just need to make sure they don't score from us trying it!
  17. I think I might start a similar thread before every away game from now on.
  18. I tell you who's a good player. Moises Caicedo. I watched him closely at the match yesterday and he's a very accomplished player for his age. No way we could afford him but someone is getting a very good player there.
  19. No need. They'd have missed the penalty.
  20. Nor was McGinn. The ball is going out of play when he gets taken out by Dunk. Should that not be a penalty either then?
