blimey we've got a load of moral preaching do gooder's in here :)

Just because some people have gambling addictions doesn't make it evil anymore than me blaming Stella Artois for sleeping with some fat chick

It wasn't the Stella, it was the rohypnol you put in it, you know it, the judge knows it, we all know it.

My initial question was why no one seems to object to fast food or alcoholic drinks companies yet will object to gambling companies?

Fast food chains and alcoholic drink companies don't milk you for everything you have. Yeah they can be addicting, but you don't have members of staff working for them goading you into spending all of your money. Ultimately it's your choice. McDonalds isnt going to phone you up asking why you havent been for a few months. No member of staff is going to sit with you whilst you eat and say 'good job, keep it up!' when you finish the burger. Casinos are a nasty place, as soon as they know someone has a bit of money to spend they will swoop in and do everything in their power to keep that person there for as long as they can. Free food, free drinks, pretending to care about the person all in an effort to make them lose their money. That's what most people find morally reprehensible.

But that's after a grown adult hs decided to step inside a casino with money to gamble. Surely he or she has to know what to expect?

I think it's worse that fast food and fizzy pop companies target kids with products that are bad for them, yet they can easily buy with pocket money with no adult supervision on how many big macs and cans of coke they can guzzle down, but no one complains about that.

It's all just a little by 'nanny state' combined with Helen Lovejoy. Casino's are where people go to gamble. Pubs are where people go to drink. God knows where people go to smoke these days.... but if that's not up your street then don't go. It's a choice you can make as an adult.

Kids don't get to have that rational thought process, or the ability to decide, yet it's arguable that fatty / sugar foodstuffs is hugely damaging for them - yet there's no hysteria.

Selective outrage if you ask me.

And this is exactly why people don't like how much gambling is associated with the sport now - children are being exposed to it more than ever before. Someone in this thread said something about a child knowing about odds and gambling at such a young age, which could lead to that child developing an interest in gambling before he or she even hits adulthood.

Oh, cool. I didn't know that, just assumed they were leaving it for the kit launch event.

You raise some excellent points, Stan. As another poster said, if you look deep enough you can find a reason to hate any shirt sponsor.

I guess the only point is that Villa is a family club and football is not an ordinary business. Things that kids should not be exposed to - those activities that would be considered a crime if they participated - is probably a good place to draw a line. A "moral high ground", as it were.

Yeah, they did the same thing last year didn't they? Put up loads of promo shots a few days before the kit launch with Bent, Gabby etc on. In fact, wasn't that where Gardner had his herp derp thumbs up moment?

OS: Dafabet

The Club is pleased to welcome Dafabet as our Official Main Club Sponsor having entered into a two-year agreement.

A leading Asian online betting website, Dafabet has grown rapidly over the past 18 months and is now established as one of the top sportsbook brands in the world.

In 2012 Dafabet was ranked 21st in the prestigious eGaming Review Power 50 list of online gaming operators.

As part of the agreement, the Dafabet logo will feature on the home and away Villa shirts and the company will enjoy a host of sponsorship benefits.

"We're pleased to announce our partnership with Dafabet," said Villa Chief Executive Paul Faulkner.

"There is a real sense of excitement, anticipation and optimism as we look forward to the new season, building on the solid foundations we have in place.

"This will be a good and positive partnership for the Club and we are looking forward to working together with Dafabet as we continue to build and move the Club forward.

"Crucially for us, during negotiations Dafabet displayed a strong willingness to work with us in our continued support for Acorns and we look forward to progressing some ideas around that in the near future."

Dimitris Karatzas, Managing Director of Online Betting and Gaming at AsianBGE, said: "After entering the Premier League last season as international betting partners to two clubs, we saw the increased potential of becoming an official club sponsor.

"All of the team here are football mad, supporting sides from all around the world. It's no cliché to say we love, live and breathe the game with extreme passion.

"It's a very significant and proud moment for us to form such a partnership with Aston Villa, a side steeped in tradition.

"We are delighted to see Dafabet on the front of such a well-recognised shirt and to be associated with a club respected throughout the footballing world. I am sure all the fans will agree the kit looks great.

"We look forward to the new season and hope this partnership continues well into the future."

John Cruces, Head of Sponsorships at Dafabet added: "The Premier League is second to none in the world of football, simply speaking it's the most exciting and recognised league in the world.

"To be associated with one of the oldest and most successful clubs in England will help us achieve our aim of making Dafabet a household name - not just in Asia, where the majority of our players are currently from, but worldwide."

Acorns Chief Executive David Strudley said: "The ongoing support shown by the Club and fans for Acorns is immeasurable and clearly demonstrated by their efforts to include us in their discussions with Dafabet.

"We are extremely grateful to both AVFC and Dafabet in what is a crucial year as we celebrate 25 years of caring and look to a future where we can help to provide care and support to each of the 2,000 plus life-limited and life-threatened children in the region."
