show pony.

who's been great lately

nothing more than we would have expected originally.

how many goals has he scored again?

Unlucky not to score a cracker against newcastle.

How many assists has he got again??

oh great so he hasnt scored, although he nearly did against newcastle, and he has 3 assists (which by the way has to be one of the most useless statistics in football).

yep... he's a worldy

Cant fault the way he's been playing lately. Think he has the ability to keep us up. I hate it when people bring stats into everything. Seems to be happening a lot on here lately. Football is just as much about what you do off the ball as it is to what you do on the ball and there's no stats for that. I watch football with my eyes, and I can see when someone is playing well and when someone is not. And lately, N'zogbia has been playing especially well. Long may it continue.

So setting up goals is useless?

The majority of the time its simply a completed pass though.

Against Albion he passed the ball to GA who scored.

Wow.

'Assists' are too much of a broad statistic.

You need to analyse it in more depth.

I tend to agree with your last sentence

I'd hazard a guess that is a very American way of looking at it.

I do agree with you on this, 'assists' is something people make too much of a fuss about nowadays.

Wow that is naive. Assists are a very, very describing statistic of players like Charles N'Zogbia and I am bewildered how some can doubt it.

Sure a few assists are rebounds from shots and just easy play-throughs, but at least he was there to do it. Over time the assist tally will say something about a player's ability to contribute in attack and yes, I would like a guy who could chip in with 15 direct assists every season even though they were just "easy" passes to an open player in front of goal. An attacking midfielder with very few assists during a season is not contributing like he should.

"Assists" is a bit misleading though.

You can beat 3 players and play a perfect cross right onto the foot of a striker who then falls on his arse and kicks the ball into the stands. That doesn't count as an assist. Meanwhile, you can have a defenders clearence bounce off the back of your head and into the path of a striker who scores and that does count.

I think the "chances created" is a much better way of looking at the contrabution of a midfielder.
